The Role

Reporting to: Head of Manufacturing

The Production Manager (Glass Plant) will work closely with the Head of Manufacturing as part of the Manufacturing Management team, with the principal focus being the efficient execution of the Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) Plant, supporting the realisation of the business’s strategic objectives. In the context of Glass Plant, these objectives include but are not limited to the following:

Health & Safety are paramount – To that end as Production Manager you will be accountable for driving a Safety Culture both within the Glass Plant and play a leading role in driving this across Manufacturing as a whole.

  • Hold regular Safety briefings with your team
  • Promote proactive Near Miss reporting
  • React in a timely manner to address any Near Miss, Incident or Accident in your area, and support others as required

Execute Daily, Weekly & Monthly Plans as per standard Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery & People operations model KPIs.

  • Safety – as per above
  • Quality – ensure output of product complies with relevant quality standards(including GGF)
  • Quality Improvement – continually strive to improve product quality and reduce inprocess scrap
  • Cost – Manage labour efficiently to optimise resource and control DL spend
  • Delivery – Achieve Weekly & Monthly Build Plan targets, that in turn fulfils OTIF objectives
  • Delivery - Liaise with Manufacturing Management Team to ensure output is in sync to optimise overall performance
  • People – Hold regular team briefing on both tactical and operational topics
  • People – Effective management of sickness absence/attendance as per Bradford Factor
  • People – Manage discipline and behaviours, as per Code of Conduct
  • People – Demonstrate leadership skills that inspire and motivate team members

Key Skills & Attributes

This is an excellent opportunity to join a strong management team, and lead a dedicated team of glass plant operatives.

  • This role will operate at both a tactical hands-on level as well as an operational/strategic level. The ability to flex between both modes in a dynamic environment is essential.
  • Experience in IGU manufacturing is desirable, with knowledge of GGF quality standards.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate those around them to innovate and deliver .

  • The ability to identify opportunities through challenging the status quo and the conviction to drive change.
  • Five years minimum experience in a Production Supervisor/Manager role, with a proven record of working in an Operations Excellence environment. Including Lean Manufacturing, 5S and Quality Improvement methodologies.
  • A good understanding of current Health & Safety regulations.
  • Computer literate with a good knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel.
