About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Operations Manager to join Oxford Cancer, a city-wide research initiative and partnership between Oxford University, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, Thames Valley Cancer Alliance and the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group. We seek to harness Oxford’s world-leading cancer research from our growing network of 1,000+ members who are working in cancer-related fields. This network covers a range of disciplines, all with the core aim of facilitating collaboration to ensure rapid translation of scientific discovery to treatments for patients. An important part of Oxford Cancer’s activity is the establishment and management of laboratories, services and facilities used by a variety of cancer researchers working on cutting edge, innovative and high impact projects. Collaborators include academics at Oxford and across the UK, as well as commercial and industry partners.
This post will involve managing a team of 4 administrators and managers responsible for and delivering Oxford Cancers training; patient and public involvement; pump prime funding; communications; events, symposia and workshops; and governance objectives. This post is an exciting opportunity for someone who is keen to work in a leadership role for a world leading research centre, and who would be motivated to help find solutions so the Oxford Cancer runs efficiently and effectively. A positive and flexible attitude is important, with a pro-active approach to the role.
This post is a maternity cover for 15 months and is offered full-time based at Department of Oncology, Oxford Cancer, New Richards Building, Headington, Oxford OX3 7LA.
About you
You will be educated to A-level or equivalent with professional qualifications in project management (such as PRINCE2), and experience of prior management or organisational operational roles. You will have a track record leading the delivery of scientific events as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills with professional experience of delivering complex administrative processes. You will have the ability to show independent initiative and excellent problem-solving abilities in resource and time constrained environments. You will demonstrable capabilities for independent management of concurrent projects of varying importance/urgency with stakeholders including a range of senior and junior academics and administrators. Experience of setting standards/best practices in a scientific administrative setting and experience of being point of contact for external academic, funding and commercial partners will be advantageous.
