Head of UX/UI
At Believ, formerly known as Liberty Charge, we believe sustainable transport should be accessible to everyone. We’re a Charge Point Operator (CPO) on a mission to create the UK’s most reliable electric vehicle charging network that doesn’t cost the earth and leaves no one behind.
We work closely with local authorities and businesses to deliver reliable, high quality charging networks at pace, at scale and at zero cost.
We offer all the advantages of being a scale-up business, but with the added security and long-term backing from well-known parents - Liberty Global (who also own our delivery partner, Virgin Media O2) and Zouk Capital (who manage the Government’s Charging Investment Infrastructure Fund).
We are seeking a creative and experienced Head of UX/UI to lead our user experience and interface design efforts as we seek to move from a predominantly SaaS model to an in-house, fully owned and managed technology ecosystem. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), this role will be responsible for defining and implementing a user-centric design strategy, creating intuitive and visually compelling interfaces, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional user experiences across our products and platforms. Initially, you will be the sole designer responsible for all UX & UI across both internal and externally facing mobile and web applications, however there is scope for the successful applicant to hire and grow a team to meet the demands of the wider business as we scale.
With a focus on user centric development and design you will be expected to collaborate closely with the CTO, Head of Engineering and wider business to ensure that we are developing and implementing initiatives and innovations that put our customers first whilst delivering frictionless, seamless and engaging user experiences.
Lead the development of a comprehensive UX/UI design strategy, incorporating user research, industry best practices, and business goals to drive the evolution of our product user experiences.
Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for web and mobile applications, incorporating user-centered design principles, accessibility standards, and brand guidelines.
Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and other stakeholders to understand user needs, define product requirements, and translate them into intuitive and visually appealing design solutions.
Conduct user research, usability testing, and data analysis to gather insights and validate design decisions, iteratively refining and improving our products based on user feedback and behavior.
Stay informed about emerging design trends, technologies, and best practices, and advocate for their adoption to enhance our design capabilities and deliver innovative user experiences.
Define and implement design processes and methodologies, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and quality in all aspects of the design lifecycle, from ideation to implementation.
Collaborate with external agencies, contractors, and partners as needed to augment design resources and capabilities, ensuring alignment with project requirements and quality standards.
Manage and mentor a team of UX/UI designers, providing guidance, support, and feedback to foster a collaborative and high-performing design culture.
At Believ, we are building a culture that attracts and retains the best talent. 10+ years of experience in UX/UI design, with a strong portfolio showcasing a range of projects, including web and mobile applications.
~ Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, design thinking methodologies, and usability best practices, with a focus on delivering intuitive and delightful user experiences.
~ Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, collaborating closely with product management and engineering teams to deliver iterative design solutions.
~ Familiarity with front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on design implementation, with the ability to collaborate with developers to ensure design feasibility and fidelity.
~ Proven track record of leading and managing design teams, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop talent to achieve business objectives.
~ Understanding of internationalization and localization principles, with experience designing multilingual and culturally sensitive user experiences for global audiences.
Proficiency in user research methodologies, such as interviews, surveys, and persona development, to gain insights into user behaviors, motivations, and pain points.
Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of designers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance design culture focused on innovation, excellence, and continuous learning.
Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and data analysis to inform design decisions and iterate on design solutions based on user feedback and behaviour.
Competitive basic salary
~33 days annual leave, including 8 Bank Holiday days
~ Access to wellbeing and mental health benefits such as the Calm app, personal medical insurance, critical illness cover and dental insurance
~ Pension contribution
~ Access to our car benefit scheme
~ Access to our online learning platform to continue to develop and grow your career with us.
The position is full time and office based.
We embrace diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for our people. We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment.
