Responsible for: Form tutors across the House

We are seeking a teacher to take a lead in the pastoral provision and academic overview for students within the House so that they are supported to ‘enjoy, respect and achieve’, by ensuring they feel safe and nurtured in school. To promote positive attitudes from students and families towards education so that students benefit fully from the opportunities available to them. Be able to generate a sense of belonging within the house and support competitions and events to broaden the enrichment activities available to our students.

Promote high attendance & other positive behaviours for learning and build good relationships with students and parents through effective communication. To work with identified vulnerable students and those who experience barriers to their learning to support and provide intervention strategies, including sourcing external support where appropriate. To monitor the performance of students whether academic, attendance or social, and intervene to support high expectations and outcomes for all. To apply school policies consistently and where necessary, firmly, particularly those relating to behaviour, attendance and school uniform.

The Candidate

We are seeking a skilled teacher who will be ambitious for our students who is keen to take the next step on the career ladder. Key to this role is a passion for providing excellent pastoral care for students and in working with families to ensure students are well supported to achieve well in school. A keen desire to make a difference and a belief that a good school can and does make a significant difference to students' life chances and achievement, including the wider skills needed in life.

You will:

● have experience of pastoral leadership

● be an excellent classroom practitioner

● have up to date knowledge of developments in pastoral care and progress achievement in Education, particularly for lower years

● be skilled in developing effective relationships with students, parents and colleagues. A ability to see the best in all students

● Confidence in upholding school policies and procedures

● be able to adapt positively to change

● Positive ‘can do’ approach

The House System

The House system has been in place since September 2023 and was introduced to increase the sense of belonging amongst our community, both students and staff; all staff are also part of a house. Student voice is important and the 4 houses were named by our students. The house names represent different skills, qualities and attributes that we feel are important in our young people.

The houses are called;

● Attenborough

● Curie

● Rashford

● Yousafzai

In a short space of time the Heads of House (HOH) have been instrumental in developing a unique identity for their house, working with their student body to develop leadership opportunities and promoting a sense of belonging. We are looking for a skilled practitioner who is able to combine excellent teaching with a passion for providing exceptional pastoral support, and who has a nurturing and encouraging manner to bring out the best in our students. You will be joining a vibrant team who are supported by two Student Support Officers and three Deputy Safeguarding Leads. While there is friendly competition amongst the houses, the HOH work closely together to ensure there is consistency in achievement, reward and where necessary, consequences. This is an exciting opportunity to further develop the role of the house system in the day to day life of students and to truly shape our pastoral system into something exceptional.

This role would ideally suit a teacher who is keen to develop their pastoral leadership experience and someone who is aspirational for senior leadership in the future.
