We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations and Maintenance apprentice to work with us in Maidstone, Kent. Your role will be to help and assist tradesmen in installations, testing, and commissioning of industrial systems. The company’s work is very diverse from industrial controls to large generation and backup power installations.
What will the apprentice be doing?
Working within the panel shop environment understanding the concepts of panel manufacture, understanding wiring schematics and layout GA’s.
Assisting engineers with commissioning of controls systems, reading PLC code with hands on experience of code changes and HMI graphic implementation.
Commissioning of control applications and 4-20ma loop validations.
Assisting with panel and control cable installations.
Understanding instrumentation installations and electrical switchgear applications.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Year 1 of the Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard, the learner will attend four days a week within IPS Rochester workshop completing practical skills (Performing Engineering Operations) and one day a week studying the Technical Certificate.
In Year 2, the Apprentice moves to day-release and will attend IPS one day a week to continue the Technical Certificate. The Apprentice will continue to receive regular training contact with IPS all throughout the programme.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there will the possibility of a design engineers' position.
Desired skills and personal qualities
GCSE or equivalent English, Maths and Science (Grade 4/C and above) essential

Enrolment onto your apprenticeship programme is subject to prior attainment checks, and your Personal Learning Record will be reviewed upon successful appointment. We are also obligated to follow the guidelines around eligibility, set out by the government apprenticeship funding rules. NB: Please include minimum qualifications (GCSE Maths and English grades) in your apprenticeship application. The company was established in 2006 and after a year working alone on design and specification projects, I took on my first member of staff and rented a small industrial unit. The company soon outgrew our first premises and we moved to our current location with three times as much office and panel building space. We have already seen one apprentice through to qualified electrician status and intend to take on one or two more this year.
