Trading Systems Support Engineer

Our client is an elite team of Trading Support Engineers who are looking to bring on a talented and passionate engineer to their London office. This team consists of exceptional engineers with a collaborative and lean culture who support trading systems spread across the globe. This team has the financial backing from a trading firm that does not fail to perform and provides the latest technologies and some of the fastest trading systems in the world. Joining the Trading support team, your responsibility is to provide technical support and engineering know-how to the teams working across a diversified set of markets. This includes testing, production environment, software deployments and configuration, and monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Engage as part of a collaborative team to refine premier operational assistance, streamline software implementation and configuration strategies, and implement advanced surveillance techniques aimed at predicting and mitigating issues beforehand, thereby minimizing operational interruptions and ensuring swift restoration from any disturbances.
  • Ensure the trading system's operational integrity to prevent the loss of critical trading opportunities.
  • Deliver support for various trading divisions’ operational platforms across a range of financial instruments and international locales within a mixed-platform operational setting (mainly Linux with an element of Windows).
  • Innovate bespoke automation tools for processes and monitoring, integrating external technologies where beneficial.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues in trading systems caused by internal (proprietary software/systems) or external (financial markets, data transmissions, telecommunication connections) variables.
  • Enhance software setup and deployment practices to cut down on manual configuration inaccuracies and pursue impeccable operational changes.
  • Maintain fundamental market connections and liaise with trading exchanges on issues related to trade orders, system connectivity, and other technical support inquiries.
  • Cooperate with traders, database managers, software engineers, operations staff, quality assurance teams, infrastructure specialists, technical support, business expansion teams, and leadership across the globe.
  • Aid end-users and software developers in mastering crucial trading and operations systems to ensure the accurate and efficient application of tools at their disposal.
  • Compile guides for standard operations, diagnostic approaches, and systems architecture.
  • Synchronize actions with global support teams to guarantee seamless and uniform assistance around the clock.

Prerequisites for this role:

  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and the ability to manage situations smoothly that lack established operational guidelines.
  • Experience in supporting high-capacity applications, monitoring processes, and issue resolution.
  • Familiarity with FIX protocol and other trading communication protocols.
  • Scripting abilities are seen as an advantage.
  • Proficiency in SQL, covering manipulations, creating tables, and basic database management tasks.
  • Experience in supporting Linux & Windows platforms in a high-demand operational environment.
  • Experience in the support of electronic trading systems, with a preference for those having worked in proprietary trading environments.
  • Demonstrated grasp of network protocols, especially multicast networking.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to provide comprehensive team support, including participation in a rotating on-call roster.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar field.
  • A strong drive for self-improvement, with a continuous desire to enhance the operational support process.
  • A pronounced sense of duty and reliability, with robust follow-through capabilities.
  • Ability to maintain poise under pressure and tight deadlines; skilled in handling numerous tasks and adjusting focus with efficiency.
  • Exceptional planning skills, including the ability to effectively strategize and prioritize tasks.
  • Must possess adept communication abilities, capable of engaging in clear, concise dialogue in both written and verbal forms, across a diverse range of individuals.
  • The capacity to rapidly adapt previous experiences to new diagnostic and communication tasks is essential.
