We have an opportunity for a clinical psychologist to join our welcoming and friendly, research active, expanding Neuropsychology Team at Combined Healthcare, a CQC-rated 'Outstanding' Mental Health Trust. The post is part time, 26 hours per week, to cover maternity leave and is based in an outpatient neuropsychology service. This is an excellent opportunity to gain a broad range of neuropsychology experience under expert supervision. The post-holder will offer both assessment and psychological intervention for patients with a range of neurological conditions and brain tumours.
The role will involve contributing to the assessment, formulation and treatment of patients with neurological conditions or brain tumours, under the supervision of a principal or consultant (neuro)psychologist. Opportunities will be available for individual, peer and group supervision (in line with BPS requirements), accessing CPD, research and audit, and service development.
There is some flexibility to allow home working for part of the week, depending on service need.
Although this is currently a 12 month fixed term post, there are business cases in progress to create substantive posts in the near future.
- Working alongside a Senior/Principal Psychologist/Neuropsychologist and Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide high quality psychological formulation and intervention for patients
- Administration, scoring, interpretation, report-writing and feeding back of neuropsychological assessments, screening tools and outcome measures
- Providing structured interventions under the supervision of a Psychologist/Neuropsychologist
- Working with people who have complex needs which can present/lead to challenging situations or behaviours and risk.
- Contributing to service development and evaluation projects
- Offering group interventions
- Previous experience of working with adults with physical, cognitive or mental health problems is essential.
- Previous experience of working in a multidisciplinary team would be an advantage.
- In person and remote (online and telephone) patient sessions
The Neuropsychology team has excellent links with wider psychology services at Combined Healthcare and with colleagues at local hospitals (Royal Stoke University Hospital and Haywood Hospital).
You will be part of a large neuropsychology department, and have good links to peers across the conurbation, via Special Interest Groups and cross-Trust training events and supervision groups. Excellent CPD is available. Job description Job responsibilities
- Delivery of neuropsychologically-informed assessment, rehabilitation and individual/group psychological interventions
- Post-holders will work under the supervision of a Senior/Principal Clinical Psychologist / Neuropsychologist.
- Post holder may be required to work with clients who are highly distressed, anxious or hostile and will experience sensitive situations frequently.
- Working independently, with regular supervision
- To contribute to/ conduct audits and service evaluation/research projects
- Contributing to teaching and training
- Good organisational skills as well as an ability to work to deadlines and produce high quality work
The ability to cope with psychologically distressing patient information is essential Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
- HCPC registration as a clinical/counselling practitioner psychologist
- Working therapeutically within a clinical setting with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings.
