Job Vacancy: Assistant Accountant

Job Purpose

Are you an enthusiastic and detail-oriented finance professional who enjoys supporting the Business Controller? Do you have experience working in a finance department and are you skilled in both Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP)? If so, we are looking for you

As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a crucial role in our finance team by performing AR, AP, and various administrative duties. You will work closely with the Business Controller to ensure the timely and accurate reporting of financials.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable:

  • Checking remittances and forwarding them to the Shared Service Centre.
  • Allocating cheques to customer accounts and posting payments to the bank.
  • Taking card payments via an online portal and posting them in the ledger.
  • Actively chasing customers for payments and monitoring the block list.
  • Processing new credit applications, including requesting trade references and performing credit checks.
  • Handling customer queries and providing copy invoices and Proof of Deliveries (PODs).
  • Managing key industry accounts receivables, including processing invoices, resolving queries, and sending statements.
  • Releasing credits once processed by the Sales team.

Accounts Payable:

  • Checking and coding vendor invoices and emailing them to the Shared Service Centre for processing.
  • Approving payment proposals sent twice weekly by the Shared Service Centre in the absence of the Business Controller.

Other Duties:

  • Month-end postings such as transport accruals, recurring entries, and clearing suspense accounts.
  • Assisting with the annual closing and external audit process.
  • Maintaining monthly control accounts for key P&L and Balance Sheet codes, ensuring correct postings for audit and tax purposes.
  • Managing credit card expenses, employee expenses, and petty cash.
  • Supporting the Business Controller in Quality Assurance and Health & Safety administration.
  • Performing project work assigned by the Business Controller.
  • Preparing the daily sales report in the absence of the Business Controller.

  • Working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Consistently delivering high personal performance standards.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with key account customers.
  • Ensuring accuracy in data entry and processing.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Part-qualified AAT or equivalent certification.
  • Previous experience working in a finance department.
  • Computer literate with strong Excel skills.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
  • Knowledge of SAP.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.

Job Dimensions and Reporting

The Assistant Accountant reports to the Business Controller and works closely with other departments and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
