HSE Regulatory Solicitor – This is a hugely exciting role offering the chance for a regulatory solicitor to join a growing and dynamic team benefiting from an established national network. Candidates with proven health and safety, regulatory, criminal regulatory and corporate risk experience are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be working with a highly regarded Partner in this practice area. Ideally, this would suit a candidate with 1 PQE + but NQs will also be considered. The Partner is keen to speak with any candidate with relevant experience.

Overview

  • Job Title: Regulatory Solicitor
  • Location: West Midlands
  • Salary: to £55,000
  • Reports to: Partner / Head of Department
  • Hybrid working: Yes – very flexible approach with 4 days WFH per week
  • Previous experience: Candidates should be able to demonstrate previous HSE or motor crime experience. NQs will be considered with a genuine interest in regulatory work. Ideally, NQs should have completed at least one seat on training contract.

Introduction to regulatory team

The team mainly focuses on health and safety matters across a broad spectrum of regulatory breaches such as food, fire and environmental incidents. Expect to be involved in high-profile inquests work. Lawyers also handle cases such as motor crime matters on behalf of company directors and other officers.

Structure and nature of the work

The successful candidate will work with a lead Partner in the team. Duties will include:

  • Reviewing and analysing prosecution evidence;
  • Drafting witness statements;
  • Critically analysing and summarising client evidence;
  • Liaising with client, regulators Coroner’s Office as well as CQC, Police, HSE or other relevant body;
  • instructing experts;
  • Helping to prepare and serve defence case statements, sentencing bundles and mitigation bundles;
  • Attending conferences and meetings, developing technical knowledge of strategy;
  • Attending interviews under caution where appropriate;
  • Attending with Counsel for trials and inquests – drafting follow-up notes of outcome.

Ideal applicants

The Partner will consider candidates from a broad spectrum but they must have regulatory experience. NQs will be considered though they should be able to demonstrate at least one seat in regulatory work.
