Bracknell Forest Council is a small unitary authority. The Council provides services to the community such as the Libraries, road maintenance, waste and recycling, council tax but also schools and social care.

We have an exciting opportunity within the Human Resources (HR) team for you to study the HR Support Level 3 Apprenticeship whilst providing admin support to our busy HR team. Human Resources focuses on managing the Council’s most valuable asset: its employees. HR professionals perform a range of tasks including, recruiting, issuing contracts of employment, arranging pay changes, managing employee relations and creating company policies. 

What it's like working in our team...

Reporting to the HR Manager, this role offers the appointee the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of initiatives, adding value and support to our established HR/OD team.

This is a fixed term role for 24 months, during which you will undertake an 18 month HR apprenticeship. You will also provide administration support to the HR team and undertake duties described in the job description attached. This role will work closely with the HR team so that you will develop a sound knowledge and understanding of the HR function, creating solid foundations for a potential career within Bracknell Forest Council. You will be taught by an external training provider and on the job by current BFC staff and will put into practice, skills, knowledge and behaviours to help you achieve the apprenticeship and which will be key for a career in HR .

We would anticipate you working in the Council offices at least 3 days a week initially, whilst getting to understand the role and tasks. Once the role is more familiar, you can work at home more regularly if you wish, however would still need to be in the office at least once a week and for team meetings.

An apprenticeship in Human Resources covers topics such as HR Legislation and policy, HR systems and processes, managing HR information, communication and interpersonal skills.

The HR Support Level 3 Apprenticeship will take 18 months to complete, and you will study for the qualification with our apprentice provider, Ixion.

Whilst studying for your apprenticeship you will be supported by a workforce coach for the duration of the course. At the end of your apprenticeship we will work with you to see if we can identify and secure a permanent position for you in Bracknell Forest Council. 

We understand that that this may be your first job in an office and there will be people a variety of people who will be available to support you. These will include your team manager, your colleagues and the workplace coach who will support your learning throughout your apprenticeship.

What we're looking for...

We are in search of an individual who is enthusiastic about learning and eager to kick-start their career in HR.

You will need to be highly organised and able to manage various administrative tasks and follow up on queries. You will need to be good with numbers to calculate annual leave and pay and will need to be able to update the HR database accurately – any changes can impact someone’s pay so it is important that everything we do is correct to avoid over/underpayment

As an HR Apprentice, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in various aspects of human resources while receiving mentorship and training. This entry-level position offers hands-on experience and the chance to develop essential skills crucial for success in the HR field.
