This is a 10 PA post providing Consultant psychiatric input to Child & Adolescent Services in East Lancashire (applicants who wish to work less than 10 PA are encouraged to apply). The post holder will be responsible for delivery of specialist mental health services that are delivered as part ofELCAS. The post would suit someone interested in outpatient/community CAMHS but also provides the opportunity for the development of a special interest. The post holder will be expected to have a familiarity with important relevant legislation affecting the care of young people. The post holder will work closely with other consultant and multi-disciplinary colleagues.

We have well established Consultant-led teams providing specialist mental health services across East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen. This is an exciting time to join our team as a tenth substantive Consultant as we build on our existing track record and develop our range of services in line with a regional transformation programme modelled on Thrive. You are likely to be interested in community CAMHS, but also keen to develop a special interest. This is a Consultant post in the ELCAS Hyndburn, Rossendale and Ribble Valley team. The service works across a varied geography, including ethnically diverse and often deprived urban centres, and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. All staff are fully equipped to deliver clinical care remotely, including from home where appropriate.

Job responsibilities

The Consultant is expected to work as part of a team of Consultants offering clinical leadership to the service. There is a Hot Week consultant rota. Holiday cover is provided by prior arrangement with Consultant colleagues. There is currently no regular out-of-hours on call, although occasionally cover may be needed for exceptional cases on a voluntary basis, and is additionally remunerated.The post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs): approximately 75% PAs will be devoted to clinical care (including associated administrative activities) and 25% PAs to supporting professional activities in line with Royal College of Psychiatrists and Trust guidance. The post holder will contribute to the teams performance objectives and in terms of clinical work. Theclinical objectives are agreed with the commissioners and defined in the service level agreement

Qualifications and Training

Essential


  • Included on GMC Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion (or within 6 months of gaining specialist registration at time of interview)
  • Section 12 approval for MHA (if not attained then should be attained within 3 months of appointment) MB ChB or equivalent

Desirable


  • MRCPsych or FRCpsych or equivalents
  • Qualifications in specific approaches/treatments
  • Management training and qualifications
  • Relevant Higher Degree eg. MSc, MA, MD

Knowledge

Essential


  • Awareness of current issues in Mental Health Service provision policy and legislation
  • Current knowledge in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry
  • Knowledge of psychotherapeutic and pharmacological interventions in children and adolescents within evidence based practice.
  • Awareness of College CPD requirements and commitment to CPD

Desirable


  • Demonstrates breadth of experience and awareness in and outside of specialty
  • Demonstrates use of evidence based practice
  • Specialist interest in an area of child and adolescent psychiatry
  • Publications or presentations to learned societies in relevant areas

Experience

  • Wide clinical experience of working with young people (age range 0-18)
  • Wide clinical experience in different settings related to Mental Health
  • Wide experience of therapeutic interventions
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working
  • Evidence of participation in audit/CPD
  • Evidence of teaching experience

Desirable


  • Experience and knowledge of adult ADHD particularly 18-25 year age range.
  • Experience in multi- agency work especially with user, carer and voluntary agencies
  • Experience in service/medical management
  • Experience of Quality Improvement Systems
  • Proven leadership record

Skills

Essential


  • Clinical skills to appropriate level for specialist Tier 3 CAMHS with relevant training and experience in Child and Adolescent psychiatry to enable comprehensive assessment and treatment of young people with mental health disorders.
  • Able to work constructively with multidisciplinary group, providing medical clinical leadership.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English
  • Ability to use IT, including email and the Internet
  • Ability to travel between Trust sites, within localities and across Trust area

Desirable


  • Skills relevant to ELCAS sub-speciality services eg Youth offending, diabetes.
  • High level skills in a specific assessment or treatment approach
  • Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership/ management skills
  • Skills in the use of electronic records/ spreadsheets/ databases or appropriate software packages

Teaching and Training

Essential


  • Commitment to medical/psychiatric undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and training and of other professional groups - demonstrated by previous experience of teaching these groups.

Desirable


  • Organisation of teaching programmes in medical education or multi-professional education
  • Higher qualification in teaching and training
  • Training and qualification in supervision

Research
