Renewable Energy & Power Assistant Underwriter – Specialty Offshore

Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Central London, with travel as required.

As a Renewable Energy & Power Assistant Underwriter, you will play a key role in the underwriting team, assisting with administrative tasks, conducting initial risk assessments, maintaining policy documentation, and compiling Management Information (MI) reports.

This role will allow you to leverage your market, industry, and financial experience to deliver robust, client-focused underwriting solutions in alignment with the Specialty Offshore Underwriting Handbook(s).

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the Renewable Energy and Power Underwriters in managing the book(s) of business.
  • Help underwriters evaluate renewable energy project proposals by ensuring thorough information gathering and documentation.
  • Conduct preliminary risk assessments and analyses for various renewable energy projects.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting files and databases, ensuring all documentation is complete and up-to-date.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders, such as brokers, service providers, and departments including Compliance, Operations/Credit Control, and Claims Handling, to ensure efficient underwriting processes.
  • Support the preparation and issuance of insurance quotes, binders, policies, and endorsements.
  • Monitor and track policy renewals, ensuring timely follow-up and processing.
  • Provide excellent customer service by responding promptly and professionally to inquiries from clients, brokers, and underwriters.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and advancements in renewable energy technologies to support informed underwriting decisions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of underwriting guidelines and best practices.
  • Handle various MI and other requests to aid the monitoring of class performance.
  • Assist with marketing activities, such as managing broker contact lists, arranging corporate events, and helping draft brochures.
  • Immediately raise high-risk concerns/issues with the Renewable Energy and Power Underwriters, the Director of Renewable Energy and Power, and the Managing Director as they arise.
  • Provide weekly updates on issues, concerns, and opportunities in team underwriting meetings.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Renewable Energy and Power, and the Managing Director.

Person Specification:

  • Relevant experience at an appropriate level in a similar environment. Ideally, 2 years of insurance experience, preferably in Renewable Energy or Conventional Power. We will consider candidates from Marine/Energy/Power
  • A Levels qualified as a minimum, with passes in Maths and English at GCSE.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, good analytical, problem-solving, and process management skills, and excellent interpersonal and negotiation abilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.) and basic internet-based research skills.
  • Working towards or willing to work towards the Chartered Institute of Insurance (ACII) qualification.
  • Possesses the desire to eventually become a Renewable Energy and Power Underwriter.
