Introduction

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research and Development (R&D) Microbiologist to join our clients innovative team. As an integral part of our research department, you will spearhead the development and optimization of sustainable extraction processes, transforming raw waste materials into valuable biopolymer products. Key Responsibilities

  • Spearhead the development and enhancement of biopolymer extraction and conversion processes, focusing on efficiency and sustainability.
  • Lead the transition of projects from R&D to commercial-scale production, providing expert guidance to manufacturing teams.
  • Conduct thorough experiments to assess the antimicrobial properties of our products, analyzing and interpreting data to ensure efficacy and safety.
  • Establish and promote safety protocols tailored to biological and bacteriological research processes, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Design and implement detailed work plans, manage experiment schedules, and diligently report on progress to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Maintain the highest standards of laboratory practice, including orderliness, cleanliness, and proper inventory management.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Microbiology or Biotechnology, with a strong focus on microbiology and a solid understanding of fermentation, enzymology, bioprocess scaling, and purification.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in a commercial setting, preferably within the food, cosmetics, medical device, or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Proven ability to generate work plans, design and execute experiments, and effectively communicate results both orally and in written form.
  • Self-driven and capable of delivering project outcomes efficiently and safely, including working within containment level II microbiology facilities.
  • Comprehensive experience with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) standards, and Risk Assessment protocols.
  • A strong team player who thrives in a fast-paced and challenging work environment, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to collaboration.

Additional Information

This role requires travel between our R&D lab in Clydebank, near Glasgow, and our manufacturing facility in Glenrothes, Fife, with arrangements managed to ensure efficiency.

Periodic visits to customer sites for collaborative development efforts are also an important aspect of this position, offering opportunities to directly influence product innovation and customer satisfaction.
