The Curriculum Lead: English (Luminary) will work with our English teachers to design and maintain a core subject curriculum which sets out the aims of the programme of education and develops the structure and organisation for those aims to be implemented to maximum effect, including:
- planning and sequencing the knowledge, skills and understanding to be gained at each stage;
- ensuring the curriculum is finely tuned to the particular needs of our students and that it is rooted in the knowledge and skills they will need for future success;
- contributing to day-to-day leadership and management to ensure effective implementation;
- designing standardised end point assessments and interventions to ensure that any gaps in learning can be identified and addressed;
- providing the expert subject knowledge to lead and coordinate curriculum and assessment implementation through a specialist team.

Role Summary: To work with English teachers to design and maintain a core subject curriculum which sets out the aims of the programme of education and develops the structure and organisation for those aims to be implemented to maximum effect, including:

- contributing to day-to-day leadership and management to ensure effective implementation;

- providing the expert subject knowledge to lead and coordinate curriculum and assessment implementation through a specialist team.
Key Responsibilities :
- ensure the production, evaluation and revision of schemes of work and subject syllabuses to deliver content which has been identified as most relevant and useful and which meets the needs of students;
- guide professional learning within a core curriculum area to ensure that teachers develop and maintain relevant, expert subject knowledge, enabling them to implement an outstanding curriculum in line with the design intent;
- design initiatives to increase the progress of vulnerable students;
- plan and facilitate communication within the core curriculum area;
- contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the core subject;
- assist with the organisation of parents’ evenings;
- assist to define and shape contributions of teachers on the upper pay scale;
- assist work with UPS colleagues to formulate aims, objectives and strategic plans;
- assist in the interview process for new staff within the core subject, and for the promotion of existing staff;
- attend regular meetings to facilitate effective leadership;
- other leadership duties.

All teachers are required to support the College aims and to play a full part in the pastoral, cultural and sporting aspects of College life. The majority of full time staff are Form Tutors and are connected to one of the five Houses in the College.
