Diabetes Specialist Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic, and driven Registered Nurse to become part of our busy and friendly Research and Innovation department within Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust (SHFT).
The post holder will be working within the Research and Innovation Department to support the delivery of high-quality health and social care studies within the physical health division, specifically within clinical diabetes research. Our research team plays a vital role in setting up research studies to take place at SHFT, recruiting patients and carers to take part, and ensuring the smooth running of clinical trials in the research facility.
The successful applicant would also have a key role in supporting delivery of later phase research trials and administering the assessments. A comprehensive induction and training programme (including training and support to develop specialist assessment skills) will be developed and tailored to their requirements.
The post holder will have a specialist knowledge in diabetes enabling them to work independently. The post holder will work autonomously to assist in the management of clinical trial patients, whilst working as part of a multi-disciplinary team led by the trial Principal Investigators. Be able to maintain effective communication with patients, carers and professionals to ensure high quality service delivery. The post holder will be working within a large team of staff based within the department at Tom Rudd Unit in Moorgreen Hospital supporting both commercial and non-commercial portfolio research activity throughout the organisation.

The transformation will happen in staggered stages Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning in early May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.
Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

Diabetes specialist nurse (DSN)
*Professional health or social services (RN) qualification and registration (other qualifications may be considered).
*Evidence of ongoing, relevant professional development portfolio
Experience with research
*Phlebotomy trained and qualified.
Experience delivering safe and affective diabetes nursing services.
*Demonstrable experience of working in partnership with a wide selection of stakeholders, both internal and external to, deliver consistent high standards of care.
*Ability to solve immediate and entrenched problems bringing others with you to succeed.
General practice nursing including diabetes clinics, respiratory clinics, and general nursing.
*Participation in local and national initiatives and developments.
*Experience of clinical audits and service/quality improvement.
*Experience clinical research, including experience of coordinating and conduct of research studies.
*Knowledge of research design and methodology.
*Knowledge of the governance and legislative framework for conducting clinical research studies, including Good Clinical Practice
Expert nursing skills including assessment, planning, implementing, evaluating care, teaching and coaching, health promotion, record keeping, liaising, networking, facilitating, working in partnership, and multi-disciplinary working.
*Excellent communication: networking, liaison, facilitation, listening, enabling, motivation.
*Excellent IT skills, particularly in the use of Web applications and MS Office applications
*Car driver and own transport
