Field Based Electrical Maintenance Technician

Without our Electricians, Southern Water customers in the Kent region would not have access to the fresh water that we provide on a daily basis. Your experience in the Electrical field is valuable to us here at Southern Water.

Your current basic salary will sit within our banding of £32,300 and £38,800 per annum depending on skills and experience. There are a number of ways for you to increase your salary including standby and overtime. We offer a great company benefits package, in a role with stability, ongoing training, and progression combined. The benefits include but are not limited to a company van (business use only but can be taken home) with a fuel card, BUPA healthcare, and eligibility for a company bonus.

Working hours for this role are:
Monday to Wednesday 8am to 4.30pm
Thursday and Friday 8am to 3:30pm

You will be part of a team which consists of mechanical, electrical, and ICA technicians. Using your existing knowledge within Electrical Maintenance, you will undertake reactive and planned maintenance of plant and equipment daily in the Kent Water Supply region.

Other responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical expertise to internal and external contractors
- Managing projects, and carrying out inspections
- Tests on electrical equipment
- Assisting in the development of other projects.

Every day is different, you will be working in all conditions carrying out a range of tasks, to ensure the essential functions for the Wholesale Water directorate can operate to maintain a fresh water supply to our customers. Although work is generated for you on a weekly basis, you will be managing your own time, giving you the freedom and flexibility to design your own working week; you will continue to be organized and proactive.

Duties of an Electrician at Southern Water:
  1. Maintain chemical dosing systems and assist with process issues.
  2. Install new plant and equipment as required.
  3. Respond to alarms and fault find to identify issues, fix these or escalate if required.
  4. Gain quotations for parts, equipment or from contractors for work to be carried out.
  5. Identify possible future risks and recommend changes in the course of their day-to-day work and to raise these for resolution as required.
  6. Work closely with other asset maintenance technicians and process operators, to keep our sites operating well and producing clean wholesome water for our customers.
  7. Be part of a standby rota for reactive failures (Rota details to be discussed during the interview stage).

The following qualifications/experience are a necessity for the position:

  • Completed a recognized apprenticeship in an industrial area.
  • ONC or equivalent.
  • A relevant Level 3 NVQ or equivalent qualification (such as City & Guilds).
  • Experience with electrical Maintenance (ideally Pumps or Water knowledge but this is not a must-have).

Please note you must have a full clean driving license as the role will include visiting sites all over the Kent area. You will be required to undertake AP training for HV systems. We supply all PPE, tools, and relevant training to ensure you excel within your role. Please note internally you will be known as a Process Technician.
