Young Responders Coordinator

London, United Kingdom Sja's West Full time

Do you want to make a difference and be part of a vibrant and inclusive organisation that has been helping save lives for more than a century? As one of the country’s best-loved charities, St John Ambulance played a pivotal role in responding to the pandemic as well as ‘everyday’ health emergencies, training, supporting communities, and improving young people’s lives.

The project aims to engage and empower young people from diverse communities who face the greatest health inequities to become active health citizens, through peer-to-peer learning and practical physical and mental health first aid sessions relevant to the challenges they face.

Aimed at young people aged 14 to 25 (or 11 to 25 for broad access), who would not typically come through our doors. Young Responders will use existing St John young people and volunteers to deliver first aid training to young people from under-served communities. To deliver this ambition, young people and volunteers will become Community Champions who will deliver sessions that are local to young people and reflective of their needs and those of the community in which they live. The Young Responders Coordinator will work with Community Champions, the project team and host organisations to schedule sessions in the communities, including educational settings, and coordinate project delivery.

We pride ourselves in being a great place to work, providing a supportive culture with opportunities to grow and develop your career, achieve a healthy work life balance and to be recognised for the great work you do. The role benefits from a competitive salary, generous pension, hybrid, flexible working, 33 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays) - increasing to 38 days over 5 years, options to buy and sell holiday, free first/mental aid first aider courses, Blue Light and NHS online shopping discounts, cycle to work scheme, life assurance, flu jab, eye care, mental health and wellbeing tools and volunteering days.

Please see the job description for more detail (this can be viewed on our website or once you click apply)

About You:

  • Experience of youth work and/or delivery of training in particular with young people/volunteers from under-served communities
  • Experience of delivering provision aimed at increasing opportunities for young people from under-served or marginalised communities
  • Experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including community and/or educational settings
  • Experience of providing pastoral support and/or mentoring to young people in a project setting, including supporting young people with complex social, emotional and behavioural needs
  • Experience of creating and cultivating partnerships to support the success of a project or service

About The Role:

  • Work collaboratively to build and retain partnerships in local communities to reach the intended groups of young people
  • Lead the local delivery teams and Community Champions to promote the project Line and manage a Facilitator who will lead the direct delivery of training
  • Oversee the completion of risk assessments and the registration of sessions
  • Support, mentor and develop Community Champions and Facilitators promoting high morale and drive within the teams
  • Provide regular updates on the progress of the project to report back to internal and external stakeholders, including the funders.

About Us:

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of over 1,700 employees and over 30,000 volunteers, united by our goal of saving lives through essential first aid services, training and campaigning. As a charity with rich heritage and a long history of serving humanity, we are proud of our past and excited about creating a healthier, safer, more resilient future.
