Freight Export Manager/Supervisor - Air & Ocean/Sea

Basildon, Essex

Full time, Permanent position

GBP40,000 to GBP50,000 per annum DOE

We are looking for a confident, hands-on Manager to support and maintain an established and well-run Team based locally in Basildon, Essex.

Your position will be an extremely hands-on role with daily entries, jobs/files as well as overseeing the Team and supporting with clearances etc.

The role is for primarily Exports at the moment, but the successful candidate will require knowledge of Cross-Trade Shipments and EU Road Freight.

Key Duties:

  • Lead the Export Operations team, your primary responsibility is to lead your team in achieving operational excellence and delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Ensure equitable treatment, motivation, and resource allocation for staff.
  • Converting quotes into shipments.
  • Liaising with overseas agents/shipping lines, negotiating rates, and quoting customers and ensure shipment runs smoothly.
  • Booking in, preparing docs such as BL, EUR1, COO, CIPL etc, along with sending NOAs/Pre-Alerts etc.
  • Tracking via Destin8/CNS and online for Air freight etc.
  • Liaise with customers on all shipments.
  • Arranging Collections/Deliveries.
  • Rating / Billing Out.
  • Ensure profitability and operational excellence, meeting customer expectations and maintaining efficient operations.
  • Develop and maintain operational SOPs and continuously improve KPIs.
  • Implement initiatives to increase operating margin and nurture positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate ideas effectively through written and verbal channels, maintaining professionalism at all times.

Person Specification:

  • Hands-on management approach.

  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.

  • Good attention to detail.

  • Strong organisational skills.

  • Full comprehensive knowledge of Incoterms.

  • Sound understanding how to put quotations together.

  • Good experience of working with and speaking with agents/freight companies, etc.

  • Customs Clearance working knowledge, based on CDS, CNS, Destin8 and experience in raising Entries for both Import & Export.

  • Experience in LCL/FCL Sea Freight, Airfreight, Road Freight and Courier.

  • Being able to act as Key Account Manager for certain Customers and able to liaise with customers on all shipments.

  • Being able to engage with a wide variety of Hauliers to negotiate competitive rates.

  • Being able to report and manage job counts/profits/job targets.

  • Proficiency in MS software and awareness of industry tools and technological developments.

  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent and beneficial long-term relationships.
