Turner Lovell is recruiting for an entrepreneurial international developer focused on both on and offshore electricity and renewables projects. Operating at the forefront of HVDC electricity transmission, hybrid interconnectors and offshore wind projects, they have already achieved major milestones across EU and USA markets and are looking to keep growing.

We are currently retained to identify a UK Regulatory Manager with an expertise in the HVDC and multi-purpose interconnector (MPI) policy and regulation. In this role you will support corporate leadership team by proactively influencing policy and regulation development in the UK / EU including strategic contributions and consultation to opportunities and risks that are identified.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be at the forefront of policy development related to offshore grid while influencing the development of regulations across Europe. You will lead the work that translates policy and regulatory discussions into project development opportunities in order to shape future investment decisions into electricity and renewable energy projects. You will join a multinational team located across Europe and USA and receive support from some of the leading experts in offshore grid, HVDC and hybrid interconnector topics.

The role:

  • Take the lead in responding consultations on national legislation in the UK, Ireland relating to offshore transmission projects.
  • Lead the advocacy of favorable regulatory policies that increase the opportunity to develop multi-purpose interconnectors and related renewable energy projects.
  • Be responsible for providing regulatory intelligence, its implications and opportunities, to the senior leadership team.
  • Work with internal and external partners to develop project development and financing strategies that align with national regulatory frameworks.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry associations, regulatory bodies relevant Net Zero / Energy governmental departments.
  • Stay updated on relevant EU legislation that will influence the companies project portfolio and the wider offshore transmission and energy markets.
  • Work with colleagues to influence regulation development in other EU countries.

The Person

  • At least 5 years' experience in policy and regulatory affairs with a specialism in offshore transmission/ OFTO or HVDC topics.
  • Previous experience working on policy topics related to Multi-Purpose Interconnectors (MPI) or Offshore Hybrid Assets (OHA)
  • Good knowledge of the wider electricity and energy market regulation such as Cap & Floor, OFTO. MPI and CfD regimes.
  • BSc or MSc in economics, law, politics, engineering or another related field.
  • Demonstrable expertise in the regulatory landscape of the offshore / electricity transmission sector in the UK and Ireland.
  • Experience taking the lead on developing responses to government consultations.
  • Highly motivated with a passion of Net Zero, Energy Transition topics.
  • Excellent English communication skills with the ability to build, maintain ad influence networks and business relationships.
  • Previous experience liaising with Ofgem, industry associations and other relevant government agencies or departments.
  • Familiarity with developments of energy and electricity transmission regulation in the EU.
  • Willingness to travel for international assignments depending on business development and project needs.
