Health and Safety Intern

In a varied role like this every day is different. You will be working closely with the site Health and Safety Adviser and will be learning about all aspects of the role. Conducting an inspection, delivering training, reviewing RAMS or assisting with an incident investigation. You may be identifying solutions to a problem, working with our contract partners or running a health campaign on site which, could be anywhere throughout the UK
How You’ll Make an ImpactThe Health and Safety team is responsible for supporting and providing competent advice to Project Teams, as well as Sales, Proposals, Bids and Procurement. It is our role to ensuring that all relevant Health and Safety aspects and resource requirements at each step of an assigned project are identified and evaluated in accordance with internal Siemens Energy requirements.
You will support the team as we:
- Support the Project Manager in understanding and implementing the Health and Safety requirements of the Business Management System.
- Conducting Health and Safety Inspections.
- Produce documentation such as the Construction Phase Plan, Traffic Management Plan, Local Emergency Response Plan etc. to a template and review ongoing updates.
- Compile monthly reports and undertake investigations throughout the construction/installation phase, commissioning phase and project closure phase.
- Review event data for trends and ongoing initiatives to improve overall Health and Safety related performance.
- You will take a central role in collating information and data within the team, assisting with the implementation of the incident reporting software, ensuring that incidents are closed out in a timely manner and sharing best practice.
- You should be studying towards a degree or Diploma in a Health & Safety subject.
- We are seeking a candidate who is currently looking for an internship placement and then interested in becoming an Health and Safety Adviser with us on one of our projects in the UK once graduated.
- Full driving license.
- It is essential that you have a strong desire to build a career as a Health and Safety Adviser working on large construction projects.
- Showcase initiative, a can do demeanour and an openness to learn.
- Some knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation pertaining to large construction projects including legislation applicable to both offshore and onshore operations is an advantage, but a willingness to learn is more desirable.
- Knowledge of ISO45001, ISO14001 is desirable.
- An Understanding of the Health and Safety arrangements for Principal Contractor on projects where the Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations apply is also desirable.
- The role will be based on various construction sites. You will rotate across different sites throughout the UK, shadowing members of the Health and Safety team. This will require regular visits and time spent in support of the site. It will also include attendance at various internal project and Health and Safety meetings as required.
The successful Health and Safety Team in the UK consists of Health and Safety Managers and Health and Safety Advisers who support the Project Entity (PE) and the Grid Technology & Grid Services (GTGS) businesses. Within these there is a wide portfolio of prestigious projects including substations, HVDC interconnectors and Windfarm connections, Grid Access, Flexible Arc Transmission and synchronous condensers. The Health and Safety Team also work closely with colleagues in the Environmental and Quality Teams.
