Mechanical Supervisor (Water Assets) Sector: Water Industry, Mechanical and Civils Location: South East Region (West Sussex, East Sussex, Kent, Surrey) Job Type: Permanent As a Mechanical Superviosr r (Water Assets), you will oversee and manage mechanical maintenance, upgrades, and management works on water assets, including mechanical and electrical schemes. Your main responsibility is to achieve high standards of quality and efficiency while maintaining a safe working environment for your colleagues. Key Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the supervision of the day to day workload of site team activities designated by the project Engineer. Site based activities including tooling, paperwork, Site contact, time management and staffing.
  • Report lateness & sick reporting to the Project Engineer and have regular talks to ensure that all engineer issues are heard and are addressed.
  • Lead on inductions, daily briefs and tool box talks to Site teams.
  • Ensure all relevant Permit to works on Site are issued and managed.
  • Provide the link between project Engineers & planning to ensure relevant Site teams are aware of their workload under the supervisors control, offering advice on vehicle allocation, tooling plant & equipment, working away from home and all other matters with respect of Site activities.
  • Provide First line guidance to Site-specific health and safety issues and compliance including any training requirements.
  • Lead Site based activities, to include client liaising, updating the Project engineer on daily progress and informing of any Site issues that arise.
  • Be the Site leader on Projects allocated to, with responsibility for all Site based activities while the Project engineer is not present.
  • Work with the Project Manager with design input as required, this may include Site surveys and design meetings with Technical Department and/or Clients.
  • Implement the company's Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Policy and procedures in all operations and activities under your control, striving for excellence and using best practises to achieve the company's goals.
  • Ensure that detailed risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work are available, communicated, understood, and implemented by all relevant on-site personnel.
  • Provide instruction, guidance, support, and motivation to team members.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the workplace to monitor compliance with health and safety procedures and foster a culture of behavioural change.
  • Report and record any accidents, incidents, or near misses on appropriate company documentation.
  • Ensure all employees, including subcontractors, understand and adhere to company policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Take measures to ensure the safety and protection of the environment.
  • Set high standards and serve as an example for the team, maintaining a strong knowledge of operating systems.
  • Act as a deputy for the project engineer on site when needed.
  • Ensure all on-site personnel are competent and adequately trained.
  • Work with other team members to ensure coverage during holiday periods.
  • Adhere to ECS procedures and assist with employee appraisals as needed.
  • Identify areas for improvement on projects and recommend best practises to promote efficiency across the company.
  • Ensure optimal utilisation of manpower, tools, equipment, and vehicles to assist project engineers in achieving project goals.
*Competence Profile: Essential:
  • Relevant skills-based qualifications at level 3 or above OR at least 5 years of field experience in a specific skill-based role.
  • SMSTS (CITB) certification.
  • CSCS supervisor card.
  • Experience working with mechanical assets and rotating machinery.
  • Experience supervising people and/or site-based activities.
Desirable:
  • NVQ or equivalent qualification in the core role.
  • Additional field-based skill qualifications such as PASMA or MEWP training.
  • Crane operations training (Slinger/Signaller or Lift Supervisor to CPCS standard).
  • Confined space training.
  • Level 3 leadership training (or working towards it).
  • Experience working with water control assets on rivers and waterways.
  • Experience installing penstocks, flap valves, and winches.
  • Knowledge of working on tidal waterways and managing associated risks.
  • Ability to produce hand-drawn sketches of assets and detailed condition reports
