Are you a Mental Health Nurse RMN looking for a new challenge in Forensic Mental Health?


Ash Ward provides inpatient care in a low secure setting. The service provides a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for patients with a focus on risk assessment and reduction, rehabilitation and discharge planning for return to the community.


The post holder will be responsible for the provision of specialist forensic mental health nursing care and treatment for individuals who have a mental disorder and have demonstrated offending behaviour or who present a significant risk to others.


The post holder will be integral to the multi-disciplinary team, providing assessment and treatment to men of working age within a recovery focused service. Personal and professional development is a requirement of the post and will be supported through both internal and external training opportunities.


The post holder will be required to work rotational shifts and be required to work a proportion of shifts which include evenings and weekends and may be required to work in other areas of the Trust to meet service needs.

Part of the role includes leading a team during the shift alongside a fellow RMN, providing evidenced-based care to our clients and working collaboratively with our community team colleagues to ensure that the admission and discharge process is effective.

Leading the clinical management of designated service users in assessing, implementing and planning nursing care ensuring that junior staff and students are actively engaged in patient activity.


To observe, report and record changes in the patients physical, mental health and behaviour and to work with the MDT in planning and delivering care.


Maintaining working knowledge of legislation and guidance pertaining to mental health and learning disabilities and beresponsible for the administration of prescribed medication in line with Trust policy and drug administration standards.


Working within and manage the legal and professional frameworks relating to consent, capacity, deprivation of liberty and the Mental Health Act, understanding the range of interventions available, the evidence-base and potential outcomes for service users, communicating effectively with patients, relatives, carers and other members of the in-patient and community teams.


RMN - Appropriately registered with the NMC as per post requirements


Knowledge of NMC code of professional conduct Evidence of continuing professional development and to have undertaken post registration training. Experience of carrying out supervision to junior staff. Evidence of a good standard of literacy/English language skills High standards of written and verbal communication skills. To be able to Keywork the care of clients to ensure that high standards are met. Planning & Organisation Skills
PMVA training to required level for role Basic keyboard use


Willingness to use technology to improve standards of care and support to our patients. To comply with all Trust policies and procedures. Identifying needs for the individual, able to identify own training needs and personal development plans. To have skills in problem-solving Must be a car driver with a valid driving licence or have access to transport with appropriate business insurance in order to travel throughout the Trust, to meet the needs of the service.
