To support the transformation of the acute Occupational Therapy Service, this role will focus on utilising their unique professional skills for maxim impact for those with significant impact to their functional ability within the first 72 hours. The individual will take responsibility for the provision and development of an effective and highly specialised occupational therapy service within the hyperacute stage of admission, this will include initially pathways in Frailty Dementia/Delirium, Parkinson and Parkinsonism, and any other pathway as identified. The role will also provide clinical support to the Stroke/Neurology Occupational Therapists in the absence of senior cover and wider leadership alongside the Senior Clinical Occupational Therapists and Managers at Yeovil District Hospital.

Main duties of the job


  • Provide clinical expertise and a passion to promote innovation and impact on reducing length of stay within a cohort of designated patients that is evidence based.
  • Provide expert assessment and advice depending on the individual needs of the referred patient across multidisciplinary teams (MDT) across the pathways.
  • Provide clinical support, guidance and supervision for all staff, students and working within the Acute Teams.
  • Lead on the development and delivery of the transformation programme for all relevant staff.
  • Play an active role in the development of all staff within the acute teams, seeking profession specific support as needed.
  • Have a broad understanding of Acute Occupational Therapy specialities and of wider departmental/ professional issues.
  • Oversee the caseload delegated to other staff within the specialty, providing supervision in the form of formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case studies as necessary.
  • To provide effective communication and liaison between patients, consultants, and other medical colleagues and members of the critical care and medical teams.
  • The post holder will deputise for the Clinical lead or other Team Leaders undertaking any specific clinical and operational responsibilities in their absence.
  • The post holder will be responsible for his or her own Continual Professional Development (CPD) and maintain knowledge of evidence-based practice within these fields of work.
