Wales, United Kingdom CARMARTHENSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL Full time

Director of Education, Children & Family Services

Carmarthenshire County Council is a high performing, vibrant and forward-thinking local authority that is constantly seeking to improve and is committed to maintaining its excellent reputation for delivering first class services. We are now looking to appoint a Director of Education, Children & Family Services to help us deliver our ambition.

The Director of Education, Children & Family Services is a fantastic opportunity to join a Council that is looking to be innovative in how they deliver services that are designed to meet the needs of children, young people and their families. We are looking for a modern, inspirational and inclusive leader that creates a positive environment where everyone can be themselves and can fulfil their potential.

At Carmarthenshire County Council, we focus on providing coherent, modern and effective services. So, as part of the one of the largest County Councils in Wales, you won't just enjoy the scope of the challenge - you'll enjoy having a positive impact.

Carmarthenshire offers an integrated education and services for children and families approach to:

  • Safeguard our children and young people;
  • Enable our children and young people to have the best possible start in life;
  • Achieve educational excellence and wellbeing of all learners;
  • Support the wellbeing and professional development of our workforce; and
  • to support and sustain families.

This role is at the heart of our journey towards maintaining and achieving excellence in all areas of practice, by building on strong foundations. Leading an expert team, you will champion the rights of children and young people, aspire for excellence, equity, and inclusion, driving continuous improvement and positive outcomes for all.

As Director, you will provide high quality and outcome-focused advice to the Chief Executive, the Cabinet, Corporate Management Team, Officers, Headteachers, Governors and Elected Members. You will be required to lead a complex integrated department which delivers a number of key services on behalf of the Council, shaping the future development of education and children and family services, providing strong strategic direction, innovative leadership, and operational oversight to ensure the delivery of high-quality educational provision and comprehensive services for our children, young people and lifelong learners.

An adept relationship builder and an exemplar of personal and professional integrity, you'll be required to rapidly gain the trust and respect of everyone you encounter - within and beyond the Council.

You will need to be able to communicate fluently in Welsh. Reasonable support can be provided on appointment to reach this level.

Are you the right person for this job?

If so, you will have considerable energy and drive, and have a proven track record of successful leadership and strategic management within a multi-functional organisation of comparable scope and complexity. Crucially, you will know what first class services look like, and will know how to help staff, Governors and Members to achieve these standards within a demanding environment.
