About the Role: Our client is looking for a seasoned and innovative Head of Development - Trading Technology to spearhead the transformation of their in-house trading platform. This crucial role involves overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of advanced technology solutions that enhance trading operations and maintain a competitive market position. As the leader of a global team, you will utilise your deep expertise in technology and trading, especially within commodities or derivatives, to modernise the trading infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the CIO to develop and implement a technology strategy to modernise the IT landscape, focusing on creating a top-tier, end-to-end Trading Platform.
  • Provide visionary leadership for the Development team, promoting a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Assess and integrate new technologies and tools to enhance trading infrastructure, boost efficiency, and leverage new market opportunities.
  • Encourage experimentation and creativity within the Development team to deliver high-quality, timely, and on-budget solutions.
  • Work with the CIO and software architecture team to define and advocate for architectural principles and patterns that ensure scalable, resilient, and secure technical solutions.
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of technology solutions supporting trading platforms and risk management systems.
  • Lead the development process from concept to launch, ensuring adherence to best practices in software engineering, scalability, reliability, and performance optimisation.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to prioritise projects, define technical specifications, and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
  • Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and availability through comprehensive data governance and security measures.
  • Engage with traders, risk managers, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand business requirements and priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Applied Mathematics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Over 10 years of experience in software development with a focus on IT projects in the commodity trading domain; experience in other trading asset classes, particularly derivatives, will also be considered.
  • Proven leadership and management experience in trading and risk technology software development teams, strongly emphasising agile methodologies and best development practices.
  • In-depth understanding of trading workflows, market data, execution algorithms, and risk management principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with cloud computing, containerisation, and microservices architecture is highly desirable.
