Nottingham, United Kingdom Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Are you an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist with a passion for work with older people?

Are you looking for a rewarding role improving the wellbeing of older adults with mental health difficulties?

The Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) in Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City are looking for an OT who can provide compassionate and effective care for older adults within our services. This role will include working with MDTs within the community and inpatient MHSOP services to provide OT service where there is an identified need for OT.

MHSOP services support people over the age of 65 with a mental health diagnosis, and those of any age with a diagnosis of dementia.

Starting in MHSOP presented me with a huge learning curve and the support of my OT colleagues as well as the wider MHSOP team has been invaluable to me. The MHSOP service wide OT role includes working within teams to provide occupational therapy cover across the care unit. The post holder will have the opportunity to gain a variety of experience in different areas of MHSOP including community mental health teams, inpatient mental health services, memory services and dementia outreach. The role does require flexibility and the post holder will need to move and support teams dependent on service need.

The post-holder will work in a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive and profession specific assessment and interventions which promotes recovery within inpatient and/or community settings as required.

To provide an occupational therapy service for older people with complex mental health needs who are referred to the service which may include supporting duty cover.
To carry out specialist occupational therapy assessment, goal setting, implementation of treatment programs and evaluation.
To establish the needs of individuals referred to the service and plan care with colleagues from health, social services, families, and the voluntary sector.
To represent and promote the specialist role of Occupational Therapy.
Advocating for the needs of people being treated for dementia of any age and older adults with other mental health needs.

The post holder will be responsible for occupational therapy input in an ethical manner for a defined caseload, including care coordination, for older adult patients with mental health needs including dementia of any age in recovery and positive risk taking approach.

To provide a high quality Occupational therapy service which is holistic, evidence based, safe, effective, efficient, accessible and client centred. The post holder will support patients independence and wellbeing and deliver individual assessments and formulation and specific treatments which are client centred and support timely discharge whilst maintaining occupation at the centre of practice.

The post holder will provide active clinical and managerial leadership skills within the team, providing mentoring education and supervision to non-registered staff and students and via practice and work based learning opportunities.
