Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Impact Communications , with a dotted line to the Senior Director, Disaster Management External Engagement and Resource Development, this advisor globally positions World Vision priority sectors , specifically our Disaster Management work, as an expert voice , to maximize our influence on policy , and to advocate for children and communities affected by disasters, poverty or other vulnerabilities.

The senior advisor will continue to build World Vision’s reputation as a leading child-focused development, advocacy, and disaster management agency by evidencing our field impact across our core technical sectors and thought leadership to increase our resource income through grants and private partnerships.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Reputation , profile, and positioning for income growth and policy influence

  • D evelop and lead the implementation of targeted external engagement and communications plans for pre-positioning with key global funding and policy bodies , and other powerholders , to create an appropriate environment for resource, humanitarian, and policy development.

  • Working with the external engagement communications team, international c ommunications team, global branding, and global campaigns teams.

  • Design a nd drive communications strategies and annual plans for key moments to reach powerholders.

  • Leverage significant knowledge and experience of the UN and the charity sector to collaborate with and influence priority donor audiences to raise reputation and trust in World Vision and its programming and reduce reputation risk.

Identify and mitigate reputation risk

  • Proactive and reactive communications plans in place to address key reputation risks associated with the challenges of u ndertaking humanitarian programming in fragile contexts.

  • Equip and support external engagement, media, and social media teams to identify , manage, and mitigate key disaster management-related risk issues as well as other complex challenges associated with humanitarian partnerships .

World Vision’s technical expertise has a compelling, comprehensive, engaging digital presence

Deploy to field and/or travel key external fora

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Masters level qualifications in Strategic Communications, Organisational Development, Business Administration, Journalism, Marketing or equivalent.
  • Ten years experience in marketing, or communications fields with a minimum of five years at a senior management level.
  • Three years working in the humanitarian or emergency response industry or similar.
  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strategic approach to reputation, positioning, and communications planning and knowledge of audience engagement.
  • Demonstrated success in understanding audience and stakeholder needs and channel management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to deal with the highest level of organization/business representatives.
  • Knowledge of a second lang uage such as French, Arabic, or Spanish.
  • Advanced knowledge of communications theory and application.
  • Knowledge of internal and change-related communications.
  • Field-based or virtual deployment for an emergency response in a senior communications role.
  • Demonstrable success in designing and managing engagement campaigns.
  • Demonstrable success in managing large-scale, multi-faceted, and cross-function projects.
  • Experience in strategic planning and implementation of communications projects in line with organization objectives.
  • Experience in advising senior management on communication, reputation, and marketing-related issues
