London, United Kingdom Navig8 Group Full time

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Oil Analyst

Reports to: Paul Marsh, Research Director

Location: London

We are looking for a Senior Oil Analyst to bring their expertise to a small ‘front office’ Research team that works in-house in London. You will support Navig8’s senior management and an active fundamental cross commodity fund, by contributing insights and analytics on the oil markets.

The Role:

The Senior Oil Analyst role is an opportunity for a motivated self-starter to take the next step in their career. You will use your skills to analyse and communicate views on the oil markets with the purpose of both informing and generating trading ideas. A strong desire to continue to learn and develop is a must.

About You:

We recruit passionate individuals who thrive in a dynamic environment and flourish in our creative culture. Our Analysts come from a variety of backgrounds, but all share the skills, attitude and drive required to be not just exceptional Analysts, but outstanding contributors long-term. Our ideal candidate has:

  • Intellectual Curiosity: Show creativity and ambition to explore resources and develop learning
  • Competitive Nature: Challenge ideas and display a compulsive nature to generate solutions to problems
  • Tenacious Attitude : Persist in the face of adversity and learn from mistakes to achieve results and excel in the longterm
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Take responsibility and ownership of driving projects with little supervision
  • Adaptable Thinking: Be prepared to adapt and react to a dynamic environment and diverse workload
  • Mental Agility: Analyse large amounts of information and translate into actionable insights
  • Collaborative Approach: Operate well in a team and global framework

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply solid analytical capabilities and knowledge to be a thought leader on the oil markets within Navig8 and the fund
  • Drive the discussion on the oil markets and keep on top of changes in the market, be that short, medium or long term
  • Be creative, spot anomalies, understand value and suggest ideas for trades
  • Build relationships internally to draw out proprietary information and externally to pick up trends ahead of the market
  • Cover a broad range of topics from supply, demand and price fundamentals to the geopolitical landscape, ESG and decarbonisation

Education and Experience:

  • 6+ years petroleum markets experience in an analytical or research role covering both crude and product markets at a trader, bank, industry player, research house or consulting firm
  • 2.1 minimum analytical degree (STEM, Economics, Business etc.)

Skills Required:

  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills
  • A deep, broad and global knowledge of both crude and product markets
  • Some awareness of petchem markets is an advantage
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
