This role requires strong technical expertise in mechanical engineering and building services design, as well as excellent communication and project management skills. Key Responsibilities:

  • System Design: Lead the development of detailed mechanical designs for building services systems, including HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • CAD Drafting: Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) to create mechanical drawings, schematics, and layouts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with design standards.
  • Load Analysis: Perform thermal load calculations, airflow simulations, and pipe sizing calculations to optimize the performance and efficiency of HVAC systems, ensuring comfort, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency.
  • Equipment Selection: Select mechanical equipment, components, and materials based on project specifications, energy efficiency goals, and budget constraints, ensuring compatibility and reliability.
  • Code Compliance: Ensure that mechanical designs comply with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards, including ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), and relevant plumbing codes.
  • Documentation: Prepare comprehensive technical specifications, reports, and documentation related to mechanical designs, including equipment schedules, piping diagrams, and installation instructions.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough reviews and quality checks of mechanical designs to identify and address any discrepancies, errors, or omissions, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the design and construction phases to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges related to mechanical designs, and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions and ensure successful outcomes.
  • Site Support: Provide technical support during the construction phase, including responding to RFIs (Requests for Information), conducting site inspections, and resolving mechanical-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Continuing Education: Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements in mechanical engineering technology, and changes in relevant codes and standards through continuous learning and professional development activities.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional engineering licensure (PE) is preferred but not required.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical engineering and building services design, with a focus on commercial, industrial, or institutional projects.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and mechanical design software (e.g., HVAC design software, pipe flow simulation software).
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical codes, standards, and regulations, including ASHRAE standards, NFPA codes, and relevant plumbing codes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
