A rare opportunity has arisen to work for Sheffield Teaching Hospital's as a band 5 Clinical Coder.

We seek to employ committed and enthusiastic Clinical Coders who have a desire to work towards the improvement of clinical coded data for the purposes of statistical analysis and Trust income.

Flexible patterns of working can be accommodated and with the anticipated introduction of a full EPR in October 2024, remote working opportunities will become available.

Main duties of the job

Applicants are required to

Possess the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) UK

Have experience of using ICD-10 and OPCS-4.10 classifications in an acute hospital setting

Have experience coding a wide variety of specialties

Collaborate with peers and clinicians to share knowledge and resolve coding queries

Maintain accuracy whilst working under pressure and to deadlines

Mentoring junior staff

Qualifications

Essential


  • Accredited Clinical Coder

Experience

Essential


  • Significant coding experience in an acute NHS Hospital as a band 4 clinical coder, including the ability to code across Medical and Surgical specialties
  • Experience of using ICD-10 and OPCS 4.10 Coding Manuals
  • Experience supervising and mentoring trainee coders
  • Ability to interpret and utilise Clinical Coding Standards

Desirable


  • Use of encoding software
  • Use of an EPR or Clinical systems

Further Training

Essential


  • Completion of Clinical Coding Foundation Course, and Refresher Course where appropriate

Desirable


  • Completion of speciality workshops

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to code a range of specialities to 90% accuracy
  • Computer Literacy with accurate keyboard skills
  • Knowledge of anatomy / human biology
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Knowledge of Healthcare Resource Groups HRG's
  • Ability to explain complex coding issues to a wide range of staff groups
  • Effective organisational skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise
