Band 5 Occupational Therapist

The B5 Occupational Therapist role is integral to the delivery of occupational therapy across several locations including St George's main hospital site, Queen Mary's Community services in Wandsworth. This post is integral to the delivery of activity with clear specifications around staffing ratios, timeliness of assessment and intensity of rehabilitation, functional retraining and discharge planning of patients. The role is essential in order to support/facilitate flow and patient care through clinical pathways and the post supports the delivery of 7 day services
Main duties of the job Clinical responsibility for the assessment and treatment planning of patients referred to the service, including group interventions if appropriate, and will be expected to participate in the development and monitoring of services in conjunction with supervisor. Depending upon level of experience, post holders may be expected to supervise and participate in training of support staff. All post holders will rotate between posts every six months, normally on nearest Monday to 1st October and 1st April each year but rotations may be longer or shorter depending on joining date,needs of service and individual personal development needs. Please ensure your application refers to the job description and person specification** Person Specification Qualifications and Training Essential- Qualification in Occupational Therapy.
- Registered as an Occupational Therapist with the Health Professions Council.
- Continued Professional Development including evidence of reflective practice and clinical experience gained.
- Completion of a core practice placement in a hospital or rehabilitation setting.
- Experience in any of the following clinical areas Elderly, General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Community rehabilitation
- Considered options for travel in support of community-based rotations when visiting clients in own homes is required.
- Car owner
- Clear demonstrable understanding of the OT process.
- Working knowledge of functional and standardised assessment tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English language.
- Good clinical reasoning skills.
- Able to work harmoniously with a diverse workforce to deliver a quality service to people from different backgrounds.
- Able to work as part of a team
- Flexible approach
- Competent IT skills
- Able to work at moderate to high levels of physical activity involving the delivery of manual therapy, therapeutic handling of patients and the assessment, demonstration and installation of adaptations and equipment.
- Good organisational ability - self management and initiative
- Group work skills
- Basic assessment of need and problem identification.
- Basic goal setting, planning, intervention and evaluation.
- Knowledge and experience of Perceptual functioning, Cognitive functioning, Psychological functioning, Activities of daily living
- A clear understanding of evidence based practice.
- An understanding of clinical governance and implications for Occupational Therapy services including experience of quality issues and audit.
- Able to work within Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety to meet the needs of patients.
