The Department of Learning and Leadership (DLL) is a large specialist research and teaching department of approximately 110 academic staff. About the role The successful candidate will lead our International and UK Consultancy programmes. You will be one of two Programme Directors in the Centre for Educational Leadership. Programme Directors are senior leaders with responsibility for the strategic leadership of a portfolio of large-scale, high-value, professional development programmes of national and international importance. The role includes the development of strategy; being accountable for finance,recruitment and quality targets; building and sustaining relationships at the most senior levels, leading and motivating large teams, overseeing the development of systems and processes and ensuring continuous quality improvement across our international delivery network. The role will require an in-depth understanding of education policy priorities within England and Internationally. CEL Programme Directors (PD) are members of the Senior Leadership Team with responsibility for the strategic leadership of a portfolio of large-scale national and international contracts. This role is responsible for the continuous development of our strategy for consultancy programmes in a way that aligns with institutional values and priorities and demonstrates an explicit connection between research and practice. The PD is responsible for developing sustainable contract pipelines and leading the response to UK and international tenders. The PD is accountable for KPIs set by clients and UCL. The PD is required to have significant commercial acumen and be a confident negotiator. The PD builds relationships at a senior level with organisations such as the British Council, Department for International Trade, World Bank, ministries of education, international and national school groups including MATS. The PD works with Ministers and other senior policy makers to support policy development in an international context. The PD is responsible for promoting the work of the IOE and CEL nationally and internationally and meeting financial targets. While the focus of this role is on school leadership development, there is an expectation that the post-holder will help make links across the IOE to offer clients an holistic service – for example by linking together provision across Initial Teacher Education, Special Educational Needs, English as an Additional Language and other CPD areas alongside leadership support. The role directly manages a team of Programme Leaders and is also responsible for the matrix management of larger project teams made up of existing and associate staff. The role includes significant international and national travel.
