The role is a 4 on 4 off shift pattern where you will be working 7am till 7pm.

We are looking for a Technical officer skilled in Mechanical/ electrical & hydraulic machinery to work at a unique venue in the City of London. We are looking for a qualified electrician who willneed to have a good oversight into all 3 domains in case of cover - hydraulics and building services and mechanical.

Please note you will need to be OK with heights for the role.

The Role

This is a unique opportunity and you will be supporting and deputisingas required for the Senior Technical Officers in supervising staff and the maintenance and repairs of all mechanical/ electrical & hydraulic machinery associated with lifting a Bridge including operational areas, buildings and other structures associated with the Bridge, Exhibition and Events Service.

Duties and Responsibilities

Management and Supervision:

  • Manage a portion of the Maintenance Programme at Bridge, including assigning tasks to Technical Assistants per the Planned Preventative Maintenance programme and ensuring work meets standards.
  • Formally manage Technical Assistants, including performance appraisals, leave management, and addressing first-line complaints, in coordination with other Technical Officers.
  • Supervise and assist in the maintenance and repair of all electrical/mechanical/hydraulic equipment related to Bridge lifting operations.

Equipment Management and Procurement:

  • Determine equipment needs for tasks under the Planned Preventative Maintenance programme and order necessary supplies.
  • Oversee works related to the maintenance and repair of Bridge-associated premises or buildings, coordinating with in-house staff or contractors as needed.

Emergency Response and Safety:

  • Respond to maintenance/technical emergencies and allocate work or seek assistance, including contractors, to resolve issues promptly.
  • Perform routine testing of safety and emergency equipment/systems, conduct alarm checks, and respond to breakdown calls.
  • Provide assistance during scheduled Bridge lifting operations, including participation in the 24/7 call-out roster for out-of-hours lifts.

Customer Service and Training:

  • Provide excellent customer service to meet stakeholder/client requirements.
  • Undertake specific Health & Safety training to become a designated Risk Assessor and conduct agreed assessments thereafter.

Administrative and Operational Support:

  • Review and develop maintenance procedures, recommend changes, and draft ideas for approval by Senior Technical Officers/Operations Manager.
  • Provide support and occasionally deputize for the Senior Technical Officer in dealing with the operational security team at Tower Bridge.
  • Oversee or perform preventative maintenance on audiovisual/digital content to enhance visitor experience and support Exhibition activities.
  • Participate in setting up/breaking down event furniture, internal cleaning of the Bridge structure, and other general maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Supervise contractors working on the Bridge, ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures.

Performance and Continuous Improvement:

  • Meet individual and group targets and contribute to the continuous improvement of service by implementing specific changes/developments in support of the Bridge's Business Plan.

Person Specification

Qualified Electrician - Experience needed:
• Electrical: 1 year required
• Hydraulics: 1 year required
