We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer / Principal Engineer / Principal Architect to join a well-known and exciting FinTech company based in Central London. You will sit within their Core Systems team which is a vital cog in the business' gears.

This Principal Software Engineer (Back end) will helicopter into several teams within the engineering department, your job will be to advise and suggest the best tools & technologies for the job, inspire adoption, motivate engineering teams, provide technical strategy and follow that through to execution throughout the business as well as the tech team.

It's a fantastic opportunity for someone with a breadth of experience to come into the business and have a tangible impact on the work they carry out there.

Skills Requirements:

Essential (at least one):

  • Proficient in a range of back-end technologies, primarily utilizing Python, SQL, Bash, and Rust. We appreciate candidates who have strong problem-solving skills across multiple programming languages, including Go, Elixir, C++, Java, and others.
  • Experienced in designing, developing, and overseeing data systems, ideally with tools like Kubernetes, Postgres, Kafka, and Snowflake.
  • Proven history of leading significant technical transformation initiatives, such as transitioning from monolithic architectures to microservices (or the other way around) and modernizing system infrastructure.

Bonus / Desirable:

  • A solid foundation in quantitative or technical disciplines, preferably holding a degree in mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, or a similar area.
  • Engaged involvement in technology or open-source communities, demonstrating a commitment to sharing insights and motivating others.
  • A willingness to embrace new ideas and tackle problems from various angles.
  • Excellent communication abilities, capable of converting intricate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
