To provide specialist operational safeguarding guidance and leadership to all services within the Isle of Wight Trust on a day-to-day basis. The post holder will support the Integrated Safeguarding Team in the delivery of statutory, regulatory, and contractual safeguarding services, ensuring that an all-age family approach to safeguarding is robustly embedded.
Proactively work with clinical and non-clinical teams to identify all age safeguarding concerns and risks within the provision of services across the Isle of Wight Trust.
Supporting all services in robustly responding to safeguarding concerns and incidents.
In conjunction with the Integrated Safeguarding Team ensure the learning from local, regional, and national safeguarding reviews is embedding within Isle of Wight Trust services, improving practice and service provision.
Work flexibly across the Integrated Safeguarding Team in the provision of statutory, regulatory, and contractual all age safeguarding services.
Assist the Integrated Safeguarding Team in the delivery of training and supervision as outlined in the 2022-25 Strategy.
Contribute to the development of robust internal policies and guidelines for safeguarding within the Isle of Wight Trust and support all clinical and corporate teams in their application of policy, procedure, and training.
Support the Named Professionals for Safeguarding in the scoping and analysis of Safeguarding Adults Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews , Child Safeguarding Practice reviews and associated action plans.
Attend the sub-groups of the Safeguarding Adults Board and Safeguarding Children's Partnership as required.
Represent the Trust and provide relevant health information to forums such as Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences, High Risk Domestic Abuse meetings, Missing Exploited Trafficked Risk Assessment Conferences.

To deputise for the Named Professional Leads, and Specialist Safeguarding Practitioners, as required in the operational provision of Trust safeguarding services.


Will need to work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical services in the gathering, analysing and communicating safeguarding information including risk assessment, safety planning, sign-posting and onward referrals.


Support the Integrated Safeguarding Team in core functions including (but not exhaustively) childrens Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) provision and adults Section 42 enquiries.

Planning and organising


Prioritise and coordinate own workload in response to urgent safeguarding concerns or service demands.


Access training and supervision to maintain own competencies appropriate to role and in line with trust policy.


Understand and meet reporting deadlines as outlined in adult and child safeguarding policy and procedures.


Plan, organise and deliver training with support from the Integrated Safeguarding Team covering mandatory training and bespoke requests.


PSIRF learning response meetings (SWARMs and After Action Reviews) and Collaborative Councils to embed the safeguarding as a core thread of operational business.


Embed the Family Approach to all age safeguarding across the Isle of Wight Trust


Act as an advocate for children, young people, and adults at risk at all times. Provide visible leadership across all clinical and non-clinical services in matters linked to all age safeguarding and the family approach.


Support clinical teams in the operational provision of safeguarding in complex cases. This may require direct contact with children, young people, and adults at risk by way of supporting them in navigating health systems and processes.


Develop a high level of insight into the correlation between child and adult safeguarding, and how vulnerabilities can impact on the individual and wider family network.


Service and policy development


Actively participate in the production and implementation of quality standards, policies and procedures for Safeguarding Adults and Children across the Trust.


Support the Named Professional Leads for Safeguarding in the implementation and audit of policies and procedures in relation to Safeguarding Adults and Children.


The post holder is expected to adhere to Trust policies and procedures and relevant legislation including the requirements of any professional bodies attend mandatory training as identified by the Trust.


Managing financial resources


To provide leadership, expertise, and support on safeguarding matters to all staff within the Trust and act as an innovative and enthusiastic role model.


To support staff in the preparation of written statements/reports in relation to safeguarding meetings/incidents, escalating concerns, and seeking specialist and legal advice as necessary.


Support and coach staff in their safeguarding development needs, recognising and utilising individual skills and knowledge and providing opportunity for further development.


Support a culture of fairness, openness and learning within the Integrated Safeguarding Team, and wider Trust services, in line with Just Culture Principles.


Proactively support the Integrated Safeguarding Team delegating for the Named Professional Leads/Specialist Practitioners as required and supporting/mentoring the integrated admin team as needed.


Be confident and proficient in the use of various Trust systems including, but not limited to, E-Care Logic / Patient Centre / PARIS / Symphony/SystmOne/Adastra/Datix


Be able to independently search Isle of Wight Trust Information Systems for individual information on children/adults in order to contribute to safeguarding enquiries and incidents.


Be confident in documenting safeguarding advice, assessment and interventions on information systems as required.


Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software including Word / Excel and PowerPoint in order to present safeguarding information in the best format.


Involvement in surveys and research


These may be as part of an internal, local multi-agency or regional/national audit program.


Maintain own professional responsibility in keeping up to date with current national developments in all-age safeguarding appropriate to role.


Organise own specialist workload exercising a high level of clinical judgement and decision making in response to the social and medical needs of the child, young person, adult at risk and their families/carers.


Work within own professional code of practise (if applicable) and within policies procedures and guidelines of the Isle of Wight NHS Trust.


Take responsibility of own continuing professional development and performance including identifying own development needs and maintain own portfolio in accordance with re-registration requirements in accordance with own professional body recommendations (if applicable).


The post holder will be expected to work independently but seek support and supervision from safeguarding colleagues as required.


The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and Trust business in accordance with the Data Protection Act and Caldicott principles, understanding the legal frameworks for information sharing under GDPR and safeguarding legislation.
Registered Professional (NMC, HCPC, GMC or equivalent) or extensive transferrable experience in safeguarding
Evidence of competency at Level 3 safeguarding children and adults
