Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer

We are looking for an electrically biased maintenance technician to join a team primarily undertaking electrical day-to-day repairs, planned maintenance, installation and minor improvements. This is on a temporary to permanent basis.
Your main duties will be:
- Carry out electrical planned preventative maintenance work in accordance with Estates schedules and accepted good working practices in order to ensure safe and reliable engineering services.
- Where necessary, carry out fault diagnosis and repairs to the hospital's fixed electrical installations and portable equipment so as to maintain a safe and reliable service.
- To carry out electrical portable appliance and fixed wiring inspection and testing in compliance with the Electricity at Work Act 1989 / BS7671 and the Estates Department schedule of inspection.
- Where instructed, install and test new electrical installations in accordance with the current electrical regulations and hospital standards.
- When required, advise others on the correct operation of equipment to which you are conversant.
- To become fully conversant with the function of all mechanical and electrical systems within the remit of the Estates Department.
- When required, participate in the gritting and snow/ice clearance of the Hospital roads and pavements.
- Be able to read, understand and work from engineering and architectural drawings.
- To carry out routine testing of essential systems and equipment e.g. fire alarm, nurse call systems, steam-raising boiler plant, hospital generators, etc., recording results in accordance with Estates Department policy and procedures.
- Become conversant with the hospital's Building Management System to an extent that alarms can be interpreted, actioned and reset.
- Participation in response/emergency teams for fire, major incident and any other requiring an Estates Department input.
Essential criteria:
- You will need to have completed an accredited Electrical apprenticeship training course to a minimum level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent plus relevant training or equivalent experience, plus additional training and developed skills, e.g. air conditioning HNC/HND Electrical Engineering.
- High level of knowledge and understanding of electrical/mechanical services/systems and a working knowledge of other associated trades.
- Familiarity with approved guidance documents.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Willing to develop individual knowledge.
Multi Discipline Experience:
Although the post is primarily based at the Alexandra Hospital Redditch, the post holder will be required to undertake work at Kidderminster Hospital and other Trust sites as required.
