JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is looking for a Lead Planner for their Power Solutions UK business due to significant growth. This role will lead the day-to-day of the Planning team to ensure all activities are executed on secured projects and those being tendered. Additionally, this role will support the development of the UK wide planning team to meet the expanding internal and client needs. Wood is committed to hybrid working which allows a combination between office and home working. The role can be based at any of Wood’s offices across the UK to suit the successful candidate.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will lead and ensure the PSUK’s Planning team's delivery aligns with current policies and procedures. Developing the team's skills and knowledge to meet business needs is a key component of the role. Additionally, you will support the development of systems and technologies to enhance our efficiency, quality, and innovation. This opportunity has come about through growth driven by significant investment in the electricity market and need to increase quality of project controls supporting delivery of larger scale projects.To meet the need for a sustainable and secure development of the UK electricity supply, significant new buildfor transmission anddistribution assets areessential. This is resulting in a surge in opportunities and a need to grow thetransmission & distribution construction sector by approximately three times the current size. This level of resource maintains,under the current government and Electricity System Operatorplans, this level to meet the 2050 targets.

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to support our growing workload and contribute to the increased network capacity required to deliver the UK government's pathway to 2030 and the transition to net zero. Working knowledge of the core principles of contracts, commercial and project management is essential. Proven experience of risk management processes and software tools such as Microsoft Project and Primavera are fundamental. This role will suit an experienced planner/ individual possibly from a medium sized construction company and/ or project delivery consultancy background looking to move their career towards a leadership role in the organisation. RESPONSIBILITIES

What You Will Do:

  • Develop project schedules from the acquisition stage through to project completion.
  • Ensure timely and accurate schedule updates to reflect current progress on projects.
  • Identify and advise on any foreseeable execution risks on projects.
  • Ensure management of all changes and variations impacting the schedule on projects.
  • Support business planning across operational needs.
  • Develop internal competence of the planning team and PSUK systems and planning tools to meet evolving client needs.

Essential:

  • Degree in a related disciplne.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the core principles of contracts management, commercial management, and project management.
  • Working knowledge and application of earned value and other monitoring techniques.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with internal colleagues and within client’s organisations.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and able to multi-task.
  • Working knowledge of risk management processes/ techniques and experience in facilitating risk workshops with project/ assignment teams
  • Advanced working knowledge of relevant software tools such as Microsoft Project and Primavera.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of construction delivery processes including engineering, procurement, and site operations.
  • Experience in implementation of planning improvements across a team.
  • Experience in the training and development of others.
  • Understanding of BIM requirements and integration with schedule management.
