The postholder will seek to secure critical support for budget-relieving activity taking place across the Gallery as well as acquisitions, special projects and capital works. They will oversee exemplary relationships with trusts, foundations and statutory funders and actively cultivate new prospects to increase support for the Gallery.

In recent years, the Gallery has benefitted from a number of legacies. The Senior Fundraising Manager will also lead on an amplified strategy for legacy fundraising and stewardship.

Key Accountabilities:

Planning an overall strategy to ensure that the Gallery raises a significant sum from trusts and foundations and statutory funding each financial year and additional funding for major acquisitions. Special projects and capital works as required.
Ensuring that both the Trust Fundraising Strategy and Legacy Fundraising Strategy support the Gallery’s Development Departmental plan and 10 Year Plan.
Act as a link with the National Lottery Heritage Fund and monitors and manage this relationship alongside senior stakeholders.
Driving the trust prospecting process and increasing the range of funders approached for support.
Ensuring the continuing high quality of funding applications and funder stewardship.
Lead the legacy giving strategy and to proactively encourage legacy gifts.
Plan stewardship events for those who have already indicated that they will be supporting the Gallery through a legacy or bequest.
Working with the Director of Development and senior colleagues to ensure that the Gallery follows robust due diligence processes for gifts and bequests.
To keep up-to-date with relevant changes in legislation in relation to legacy giving and potential gifts of art.
Strategy and Planning

Together with the Director of Development, and with support from the Fundraising Manager - Grants and Legacy Giving, devising an overall strategy for trust and legacy fundraising that supports the Development department’s aims and objectives.
In collaboration with other Development colleagues, create and implement a cultivation plan to engage with both prospective and lapsed funders.
Agreeing a work plan with the Fundraising Manager – Grants and Legacy Giving for each financial year and working closely with them to adjust such plans when necessary (e.g. due to unexpected campaigns or application delays).
Working closely with Gallery colleagues from different departments (e.g. Curators, Learning and Engagement team, Conservation team) to identify the strongest new funding opportunities.
Generating new leads and driving the trust prospecting process, working with Trustees as appropriate and ensuring that meetings and communications with priority trust prospects take place throughout the year.
Research, Applications and Reporting

Responsible for writing applications to request funds for Gallery projects, alongside the Fundraising Manager – Grants and Legacy Giving.
Working with colleagues across the Gallery to ensure once grants are awarded that reports, draw downs and funder terms and conditions are met.
Writing regular brief reports regarding trust fundraising activity for Director of Development, Annual Report, and Trustees.
Stewardship

Ensuring that the stewardship of agreed funders is shared across and that there are opportunities throughout the year for funder representatives to come into contact with the Gallery’s work or events.
Briefing Trustees/Director/Director of Development and other colleagues about funders prior to funder meetings. Attending funder meetings where appropriate.
Ensuring all required reporting is delivered to the funder to meet specific deadlines; this will require working across the organisation to ensure appropriate information is collected in good time.
Liaising with the relevant Gallery colleagues to ensure funder acknowledgement.
Developing active and positive relationships with relevant Trusts and Foundations staff, Trustees and other key stakeholders.
Attending Private Views and other key Gallery events as appropriate.
Information Management

Monitoring incoming grant payments and budget expenditure with the Finance Department and relevant teams within the Gallery and ensuring grant and legacy terms and conditions are adhered to.
Maintaining accurate records of all activity including logging actions, prospect and gift details on Tessitura in order that all Tessitura users can see a clear and accurate picture of trusts activity, and also ensuring the team is compliant with GDPR.
Keeping informed about the latest news in the Trust and Foundation and Legacy sector and government policy changes.
Other

Flexibility with regard to working hours will be necessary, including an occasional need to be on site during evenings.
Promoting sustainable working practices and reducing the environmental impact of the Gallery’s operations in line with its Sustainability Statement.
