Operations Engineer (Mechanical)*

The starting salary is £43,227, which includes allowances totalling £2,841.*

*As an Operations Engineer in our Mechanical Engineering Team, you’ll play a crucial part in protecting London. You’ll be part of our talented, tight-knit team, helping to develop technical solutions for frontline policing operations. Our Operational Support Unit (OSU) tackles a wide range of exciting projects often involving CCTV and video surveillance, but also touching other areas such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). The role will require you to use traditional mechanical engineering techniques such as welding, machining and turning and we also have a number of the latest CNC controlled machines for some of our more complex projects. All our design work is done using CAD packages and we use a laser scanner to input 3D objects into our design. 3D printing forms a large part of our development work and we have a number of industrial FDM, SLS and SLA machines.

You’ll need an appropriate mechanical engineering qualification or suitable experience in a mechanical role. Above all, you’ll need a great aptitude for solving problems and technical training will be given where appropriate.

The role can take you across London so you’ll need a full UK driving licence. You may sometimes be working outside office hours, so you’ll need to be flexible. This includes flexible working patterns, a competitive annual leave allowance increasing with your length of service, Met sports and social clubs and much more. This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties.
