Job Description Principal Highways Engineer

Due to continued expansion of the business, we are now looking for a Principal Highways Engineer to join our dynamic highways team. This a full time, permanent position based in our Slough office.

The successful candidate will report to the Associate/Associate Director of Highways and will be responsible for delivering designs and assessment on a variety of projects, liaising with clients, and mentoring/developing junior engineers.

• Development and delivery of concept, preliminary & detailed highway designs
• Providing technical guidance and leadership to junior colleagues.
• Development of project task budgets and programmes and delivering targets
• Planning and undertaking of site visits, inspections and investigations as required.
• Taking an active role in the implementation of CDM duties on projects
• Communicate effectively and professionally with the design team, clients, and contractors.


Experience of successful operational delivery to Local Authority and private clients.
• Experience of project management with a good understanding of commercial aspects of projects.
• Excellent Financial Acumen in both project cost control and works estimates.
• Ability to deliver on time whilst handling multiple projects/tasks.
• Good computer literacy (including experience of CAD, 3D modelling and MS Project).
• Possess strong analytical skills and experienced in the application and use of highways design software.


Degree within an engineering based subject or equivalent.
• Master’s degree in civil engineering and working towards Professional Qualification
• Experience in line managing and providing technical oversight for delivery teams.
• Understanding and experience of design using 2D CAD and Civils 3D
• Knowledge and experience of financial management.
• Experience managing multiple projects both technically and financially.
• Strong commercial and contractual understanding.
