We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Powertrain Architect to join our engineering team. As a Powertrain Architect, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and optimisation of cutting-edge powertrain systems for our next-generation eVTOL vehicles.

This role requires a strong background in engineering and deep understanding of hybrid-electric powertrain technologies applicable to aerospace products.

We have been operating in secrecy since 2017, in this time we have designed, manufactured and tested multiple prototypes, with the aim of finding the perfect eVTOL solution. Due to recent success we need to expand the team and increase our operations to hit our next milestone.

In order to assist with this growth, we are currently searching for a Powertrain Architect to join our team. In this position, you will play a pivotal role in leading and delivering on the holistic propulsion system design for our aircraft whilst growing the powertrain design team into a world beating capability.

This role presents the unique opportunity to engage in the full life cycle of design; you will be sat right next door to where our aircraft and it’s associated propulsion systems are being manufactured, assembled and even tested. Our project is incredibly unique and cutting-edge, and we need the best of the best to make it happen.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop comprehensive powertrain system architectures that meet performance, efficiency, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system-level requirements and specifications.
  • Design and oversee the integration of powertrain components, including engines, generators, transmissions, electric motors, batteries, and associated control systems.
  • Ensure seamless integration with other vehicle systems.
  • Conduct detailed analysis and simulations to optimise powertrain performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions.
  • Implement innovative solutions to enhance overall system efficiency and meet sustainability goals.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in powertrain technologies, including hybrid and electric propulsion systems.
  • Contribute to manufacturing and assembly of physical demonstrators that prove our existing or future technology targets.
  • Ensure that powertrain designs comply with relevant regulations.
  • Collaborate with airworthiness team to navigate and address compliance requirements.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering
  • 5-10 years experience in hybrid-electric powertrain conceptual and detailed design, ideally within an aerospace environment and a mix of experience at large OEMs and smaller eVTOL start-ups.
  • Experience in Battery Management System design and modelling.
  • Working experience in aerospace regulatory compliance.
  • Hands-on approach.
