Software Engineer

The successful candidate will join our client's UK L-Band Centre of Excellence, tasked with
developing top-tier software for their L-Band Terminal range. Working under the
Engineering Manager, they'll design, develop, and validate software for Satellite
Communication Terminals, ensuring adherence to schedule, budget, performance, and
quality standards. Collaborating within an interdisciplinary team spanning
embedded/software engineers, hardware and test engineers, and project management,
among others, across our client's UK and South Korean facilities, they'll contribute to
software suitable for mass production and long-term use. Their responsibilities include
ensuring high-quality, well-documented software designs, driving continuous improvement
efforts, and overseeing various aspects of the software lifecycle, from customer needs
assessment to production transfer.
Core Competencies:
Technical Responsibilities:
• Designing and documenting software architectures for satellite user
terminals and associated equipment.
• Designing, developing, and documenting APIs for the Satellite terminals.
• Developing high-quality, modular, well-documented, reusable software
for our range of satellite user terminals.
• Taking ownership of software requirements management and
traceability using industry best practices, tools, and techniques.
• Being involved in the whole product lifecycle, including refining product
specifications, producing innovative designs, generating
complexity/work estimates, fixing issues, and engaging with a multi
discipline team.
• Experience in programming for STM32, ARM Cortex targets, and
network equipment firmware development such as WIFI, router/switch.
• Working closely with the product team on the definition of user features
required.
• Working closely with the engineering team in Korea to support
integration testing/QA of our user terminal.
• Providing training and technical support and incorporating feedback
from test operators.
• Working inside an enthusiast multi-disciplinary engineering team to
evolve and expand competence.
Experience - Mandatory:
• 5+ years of experience with software development on embedded products.
• 5+ years of experience with embedded RTOS software using C/C++.
• Developing software for Linux-based platforms.
• Familiarity with Python for developing prototypes and test tools.
• Integrating and debugging solutions on target hardware.
• Experience with creating and presenting SW design diagrams, state
machines, pseudocodes, etc.
• Experience with software development, documentation, debugging tools,
e.g., JIRA, Gerrit, Github, SVN, Jenkins, etc.
• Excellent design, debugging, and problem-solving abilities.
• Gathering and managing requirements.
• Verifying requirements and developing associated documentation.
• Excellent ability to clearly articulate problems and solutions to both
technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience – Desirable:
• Previous experience with Iridium, Inmarsat, or Thuraya terminals
developments.
• UI development.
• Protocol interface with an external router.
• Web programming and script development would be beneficial.
• Asterisk, VoIP development would be beneficial.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Software engineering or similar discipline.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence
and negotiate with stakeholders across the business.
