The Role
The ideal candidate will have experience in the game industry, and you will work alongside the art, design and tech leads on our projects to develop imaginative ideas to help explore, evolve, and implement amazing UI.
We want a forward-thinking artist, who can work with the team to make memorable, immersive experiences. At Stellar, you will have the opportunity to develop and grow your expertise, as together we build a world beating art department, and increase the quality of the projects we are developing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Helping the UI Lead across different projects.
- Collaborate with the UX team to design and iterate UX and drive the UI/UX deliverables for the project.
- Engaging in a broad range of duties from UI concepting and prototyping, asset production, animation and working with Unreal (UMG).
- Maintaining the art direction to deliver a cohesive aesthetic for any given project.
- Collaborating with the art team, as well as Code, Design on various projects.
- Work directly with feature teams to provide the required high-quality assets, along with clean and efficient implementation work directly in the game engine, being careful to stick to budgets and platform constraints.
- Drive the delivery and quality of the UI for the project.
- Mentoring and coaching the development of junior members of the team, to share skills and knowledge and raise the capabilities of the team.
What you need to smash this role:
- Experience in developing a game through all phases of the project lifecycle.
- A good understanding in delivering great UI experiences from start to finish.
- Excellent visual design skills about colour theory, shapes, layout, and typography with great sensitivity to user-system interaction.
- 2D and 3D illustrative ability both freehand and technical vector art skillsets.
- Good understanding of the differing UI needs between platforms including console and PC.
- Good understanding of User Experience principles and accessibility to create UIs that are intuitive, functional, and visually interesting.
- Aware of current and emerging trends, with an interest in developing new UI related techniques, tools, and pipelines.
- Experienced in using Adobe Suite (Adobe XD, After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop).
- Experienced in UX prototyping software (Figma, Adobe XD).
- Experience using Unreal UI engine (UMG) and Common UI plugin.
- Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively, and an ability to clearly articulate reasoning behind those decisions.
- Internally driven and proactive, with a deep passion for establishing and maintaining great user experiences and stunning visual design.
What We’re Looking For:
- A portfolio showing strong foundational Graphic Design, Iconography, Motion Design and Typography skills.
- Experience in developing UI Art for games.
- Experience implementing UI Art and Animations in a proprietary engine / Unreal Engine.
Bonus Points for:
- Basic knowledge of scripting - HTML, CSS, XML, XAML or similar.
- Basic knowledge of UMG UI Materials.
- Understanding of working within memory constraints, while balancing artistic intentions.
- Company branding knowledge. And how to apply the UI art style to different areas of the game not only the UI.
