Meet and Greet Hosts
The role of the Hearing Aid Support Service Meet and Greet Host is to provide a warm and friendly welcome to our service users at our community sessions, and to help set up/clear down sessions with our technical volunteers.
Our community sessions are run to support NHS audiology departments for re-tubing and basicmaintenance for NHS hearing aids.
Hearing aids need cleaning and re-tubing every 4-6 months forthem to work effectively and we have a team of friendly volunteers who have been trained toprovide this service.Since the pandemic the role of our Meet and Greet hosts has become increasingly important interms of our helping our service users change from walk in sessions to a strictly appointment onlyservice, as well as help them understand and follow our Covid appointment guidelines. Althoughrestrictions have eased we are continuing with an appointment only system and our Covidguidelines to keep our volunteers and service users safe.
A Hearing Help Essex meet and greet volunteer will:
• Attend Hearing Help Sessions in the community; this can include day care centres, dayhospitals, community health clinics, sheltered accommodation or residential and care
• After helping manage the session you will need to provide feedback to the office on whichservices were delivered. Our aim is to start to provide volunteers with electronic tabletswhere this could be done in situ at the session (after training).
• Talk about the work of HHE and promote it professionally.
• Ensure client confidentiality at all times. Always ask if they have any objection to theirdetails being entered on our confidential database.
• Be prepared to advise clients to refer to other professionals when necessary. (Professionalswill also be covered at training)
Skills
Be a good listener
Understand hearing loss and know how to communicate clearly with those living with hearing loss (training provided)
Understand how a hearing aid works (training provided)
Able to give accurate advice (training provided)
Know about different referral paths (training provided)
FlexibleMinimum 2 hours per month, to help as hearing aid support sessions which are held monthly. Volunteers can opt to support as many sessions as they like.
