An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior clinician to join the Integrated Local Services (ILS) directorate as Deputy Head of Nursing within the Palliative and End of Life Care service. The Deputy Head of Nursing will provide the clinical leadership for the service, working closely with the wider service management team with the full support of the directorate management team.
The successful postholder will be joining an established Service Management team working alongside another Deputy Head of Nursing and a multi-disciplinary team. The role covers largely the Palliative and End of Life Care teams however also does have some oversight of the Heart Failure service.

To provide the Clinical Leadership for the Palliative and End of Life Care service, including contributing to work on virtual ward expansion, supported by the Directorate Management Team.
The Deputy Head of Nursing will ensure effective action is taken where performance falls below, or is at risk of falling below expected levels, by setting remedial plans with the service manager and clinicians and appropriately challenging any failure of these plans to deliver improvements.
To professionally lead nursing services and provide coaching and support to develop staff.
To lead a culture of professional accountability and responsibility to patients, ensuring that staff learns from complaints and clinical incidents.
The postholder will maintain a senior clinical role in the service with a focus on patient-facing care and support for the MDT. We provide fully integrated 24/7 clinically effective, efficient and high-quality care to people with complex specialist palliative and end of life care needs, based on current evidence and best practice across inpatient and community settings. Our service also includes a dedicated End of Life Care team providing rapid response to patients in the dying phase and an overnight service (Pal@Home) to support people to remain in their preferred place of care. Proven track record of developing nursing practice
Evidence of training in first line leadership and management i.e. managing sickness and disciplinary

Completed a Recognised Management Qualifications
Palliative Care Qualification

Well developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams, and have them understand the Trust's and your performance expectations.
The ability to implement sound performance and reporting mechanisms for service activity, quality and outcomes and recognise and respond early to variances
Skilled in word processing, spreadsheets email, databases and using the internet.

Substantial post qualification senior clinician experience within the palliative care setting and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Demonstrable previous success in leading and delivering change and performance by engaging clinical teams in strategic direction and delivery plans, establishing clear work priorities with them, delegating effectively, ensuring a capability to deliver, monitoring performance and giving feedback.
Knowledge and ability to implement principles of clinical governance including audit, risk management, supervision, clinical effectiveness, continuing professional development, quality standards and outcomes.
Experience of managing and configuring budgets and the skills to monitor, assess and act on financial information.
