An opportunity has arisen to a Principal Engineer – Battery Performance to join our Battery Systems Department and support the development of battery performance across all electrification programmes at Fortescue WAE in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment.

Job role:

  • Advancing electrical, thermal, and electrochemical battery performance and safety.
  • Generating battery system concepts from system level requirements by cell selection and pack sizing.
  • Defining battery test plans and procedures to validate battery system performance and safety.
  • Analysing battery data from tests, race events, and fleet operations.
  • Determining battery performance and safety through model simulations.
  • Manage a small team of engineers and provide technical mentorship.
  • Engaging with stakeholders at all levels of Fortescue WAE as a battery performance representative.
  • Representing Fortescue WAE externally as a battery system technical expert for ongoing project delivery, business development, and academic partnerships.

You’ll have:

  • A qualification in a STEM course or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience in battery data analysis in MATLAB.
  • Strong experience in battery systems modelling and simulations.
  • Advanced understanding of HV battery systems and their safety strategies.
  • Great understanding of battery cell technologies.
  • Experience in battery system development programmes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

This role will include working at the head office in Grove until an office move to Kidlington in spring 2024.
