United Kingdom Oxford Economics Full time

Oxford Economics, a leading global economic research and consultancy firm, is looking for a Head of Climate Research to join our expanding Climate Modelling and Scenarios team based in both Oxford and London. The successful candidate will be expected to independently develop ideas and act as the lead author of climate research reports for Oxford Economics’ (OE) Global Climate Service (GCS).

You will need to be up-to-date with the latest climate policy, literature and regulatory research to be able to provide insightful and digestible analysis for a wide range of clients. The research briefings will evaluate the macroeconomic impacts of a broad range of topics including: carbon pricing, international green growth policies, energy efficiency, renewable and nuclear energy. The findings of this research will inform the assumptions and Global Economic Model equations that sit behind OE’s GCS climate scenarios. In addition, the position will involve contributing and overseeing climate change related consultancy projects.

You will need to be a strong writer and a confident presenter who enjoys pitching macroeconomic views to clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify key topics in the climate policy space that will be of most interest to our Global Climate Service clients using quantitative and qualitative approaches;
  • Produce regular research notes (3-4 pages) on the macroeconomics of climate change mitigation;
  • Thematic research and econometric analysis will be published in short research papers (4-6 pages) produced quarterly with the potential to combine these briefings into longer White Papers;
  • Support business development in growing the sales of our new Global Climate Service;
  • Interacting with clients/prospects, presenting at client events and conferences;
  • Oversee and contribute to climate change related consultancy projects.
Skills & Experience

The profile, orientation and skills that you will bring to the team include:

  • First-rate academic training with a BA/BSc and a Master’s or PhD in economics, environmental science or a related field, preferably with post-graduate degree;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience focusing on climate economics or research, with a focus on developing macroeconomic ideas and themes;
  • Ideal candidates would have additional experience in macroeconomic consultancy, overseeing projects and competitive bid writing;
  • Strong track record in developing client relationships and excellent presentation skills.
