London, United Kingdom The Green Recruitment Company Full time

TGRC has teamed up with a pan-European renewable energy investment platform that was established in 2020. Our client invests in the development, construction, and long-term ownership of solar, onshore wind and battery energy storage projects, enabling the energy transition and driving stable long-term returns.

The role will be part of the Development team, leading engagement with grid connection counterparties throughout the lifecycle of GB projects, including early-stage development, ready-to-build phase, construction, and operations. This position requires a combination of knowledge of the GB regulatory environment, project management skills, and technical expertise. While the primary focus will be on GB grid matters, there is potential for the right candidate to manage additional grid issues in other European countries where our client invests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead engagement with grid connection counterparties for GB projects throughout their lifecycle (including early-stage development, ready to build stage and during construction and operations)
  • Work with Development and Investment & Execution teams and external advisors to conduct due diligence on potential asset acquisitions, identifying risks and opportunities related to grid connections, developing mitigation plans and supporting asset valuation
  • Work with Development team and partners to ensure development portfolio progresses to meet project milestones
  • Work with EPC and Project Delivery teams to ensure grid connection works progress to meet project programmes
  • Work with Asset Management to ensure projects maintain ongoing compliance with terms of grid connection agreements, assist in communication of grid maintenance plans within projects and the company and in alignment of project maintenance and power hedging plans
  • Maintain oversight of development in GB grid connection policy and regulation at transmission and distribution level and communicate appropriately within the company

Requirements:

  • In-depth understanding of the GB grid connection process, grid codes, and the procedures for connecting generation assets to transmission and distribution networks including technical standards
  • Familiarity with UK energy market regulations, including the Electricity Act, Grid Code, and Connection and Use of System Code (CUSC), as well as UK grid reform initiatives and REMA
  • Recent experience of managing grid connection processes from application through to acceptance, construction and operation, at both transmission and distribution levels in the UK. This should include coordinating with multiple stakeholders such as developers, NGESO, NGET, DNOs (Distribution Network Operators) and other regulatory bodies
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management. Ability to understand, challenge and execute grid led matters such as G99 applications, DNO grid assessment, connection cost and any associated works required, Contestable and Non-Contestable quotations
  • Proven track record of working across the renewable energy landscape and the project development process (at least 5-10 years’+ experience)
  • Qualifications – degree level in relevant discipline associated with the role
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address commercial and regulatory challenges in grid connection projects
  • An understanding of power systems, including network planning, outage windows, electrical design, load flow analysis, and fault level calculations
  • Proactive and highly motivated; a self-starter who can take ownership of key tasks and always looks for better and more efficient ways to do things
  • An interest in the energy investment sector as well as developments in the energy markets more generally
  • Precision and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to deal with people at all levels
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely – verbally and in writing
  • Flexible attitude and willingness to evolve with the business
