We are looking to recruit a Chief Cardiac Physiologist (graded at Band 7) to work 1 day per week for Whittington Health NHS Trust.

We are looking for a BSE accredited Cardiac Physiologist to join our friendly team of Cardiac Physiologists.

The primary aim of the post is to provide Cardiac services for the Trust with particular emphasis on adult Echocardiography.

There is further scope for training in paediatric echocardiography including congenital echocardiography. The post holder will also be involved in training junior physiologist and medical students. The trust is committed to funding CPD.

Over the past 15 years the Clinical and Academic Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Whittington Health has consistently been awarded a customer excellence award, the national standard for customer service excellence.

The department is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team including five Cardiology Consultants providing a full diagnostic cardiovascular service to the hospital and local general practitioners.

Over many years, our department has pioneered services that have bridged the divide between different parts of the National Health Service. This opportunity has become more apparent with the establishment of Whittington Health as an integrated care organisation following the merger of the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust with Islington Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Haringey PCT, becoming the first integrated care organisation (ICO) in the United Kingdom.

Main duties of the job

Perform and report adult Echocardiograms.

Perform, supervise and report Cardiac exercise testing as a service to the hospital consultants and open access GP requests. In addition patients must be examined with relation to the contraindications of exercise testing especially when performing GP open access assessments.

Perform and report pacemaker checks.

Perform 24 hours Holter ECG, BP and event recorder monitoring, both procedure and analysis.

Train physiologist and medical staff in all areas of cardiac physiology.

Job responsibilities

Assist in leading a team of cardiac physiologists providing specialised technical support for the department. This is not dedicated to one area of operation and you perform the complete range of tests.

There is a commitment for training and as such you will teach groups and give practical instruction on a one to one basis.

You will supervise staff on a day to day basis and implement, initiate policy related to service development in the department as a whole.

Echocardiography.

To perform adult echocardiography and provide factual reports on the studies and indicate a diagnosis. Echocardiography is provided as a service to the hospital consultants, GP open access service and visiting specialists.

To ensure a high standard of care is provided to patients at all times.

Person Specification Experiance
  • At least 5 years NHS experience
  • BSE accreditation
Knowledge
  • Good Adult echocardiography knowledge and skills
  • Good paediatric echocardiography knowledge and skills
Skills
  • Proficient in conducting and reporting adult echocardiograms
  • Proficient in conducting and reporting paediatric echocardiograms and adult pacemaker checks.
