We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic senior clinical psychologist to join our team.


We have an exciting opportunity for an Band 8b to join our Long Term Health Conditions Cluster, which sits as part of a broader Psychology and Mental Health Service at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The post will focus on input to the Louis Dundas Palliative Care team, which is a world-class centre of research, teaching and practice in palliative care for children and young people.


This post will be part of the Long Term Health Conditions Stream which works with the critical care, cardio-respiratory, cancer, infectious diseases, HIV, Immunology, bone marrow transplant and palliative care teams. The wide range of medical specialties provide an opportunity for working with a large range of different psychological presentations as both inpatients and outpatients. There is a requirement to offer staff support to non-psychology colleagues (including debriefs, pre-briefs and reflective practice) as well as supervision and line management to more junior psychologists.


The post holder will take a service lead role for palliative care provision and act as senior psychologist within the stream to oversee the day-to-day provision, as well as be able to shape future service delivery. They will also be a part of the leadership team of the Louis Dundas Palliative Care team.
The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the provision of a specialist clinical psychology service to patients and their families who are cared for by the Louis Dundas Palliative Care team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The post sits as part of the wider Psychology and Mental Health Service and within the Long Term Health Conditions Cluster (LTH). The post holder will work as a service lead and as a senior member of the LTH team alongside the consultant to ensure the systematic provision of a high quality clinical psychology service to patients and families within the above service.


The post holder will manage other qualified psychologists, assistant psychologists and other more junior staff as agreed with the consultant psychologist for the stream. They will also provide supervision to qualified staff, assistant psychologists and/or psychology trainees as appropriate.


The post holder will be expected to contribute to the flexible delivery of psychology services across the Trust, in response to new developments and organisational changes.


There is a requirement to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training
Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS/HCPC, including clinical psychometrics, eating disorders and lifespan developmental psychology
Post-doctoral training and recorded CPD experience and /or further qualifications in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
Registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council as Practitioner Psychologist.
Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.

Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care
Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts and of working in a multicultural framework
Experience of teaching or training
Experience and expertise with a specialist paediatric client group
Knowledge of legislation in relation to children and young people and child protection.
Experience of supervising qualified and trainee psychologists, and/or other professionals
Experience of line managing more junior colleagues
Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their carers, and other professionals
Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
Evidence of specialised psychological therapeutic skills as used in complex cases within paediatrics
